What’s the view from your sofa?
My favorite spot is my red armchair – it’s just so comfy! I’ve got a little pouffe for my feet, and I even splurged on a foot massager. When I’m really relaxing, I’ll throw on a cozy woolly hat and snuggle under a blanket while I watch TV. It’s the perfect setup!
What have you been watching?
I’m completely hooked on ‘Loot’ over on Apple TV! Maya Rudolph is just brilliant – the show is genuinely funny, but what I really appreciate is that it’s got something to say. It’s not just laughs for the sake of it; it subtly tackles big issues. The premise – a woman questioning why she’s so wealthy when so many others aren’t – is fantastic. She basically asks, “Why am I a millionaire when billionaires shouldn’t even exist?” It’s smart, hilarious, and surprisingly thought-provoking.

Derry Girls was a fantastic show, and surprisingly, it ended up educating many viewers about recent Irish history. It’s unusual for a comedy to take on that role, but that’s where we find ourselves. Ultimately, stories help us connect with and understand one another.

What do you ask yourself before taking on a job?
Actors always consider three things when taking on a role: Will it be fulfilling personally? Will it pay the bills? And will it advance their career? Personal fulfillment is the most important factor. While theatre offers roles that are creatively challenging and allow for more imaginative exploration, TV and film often cast actors as variations of their public persona – or how people perceive them.
How did you get the job hosting The Traitors Ireland?
I actually turned the job down three times at first. I wasn’t sure I was the right fit. It’s a lot to live up to Claudia Winkleman and Alan Cumming, who’ve both hosted the show before! I don’t really see myself as a presenter – I’m an actor – but I’m so happy I eventually agreed. It turned out to be an incredible experience.
Is it a different approach from hosting The Great Pottery Throw Down?
On shows like Pottery Throw Down, I focus on highlighting the amazing talent of the potters, acting as a guide for the audience by anticipating their questions. For The Traitors Ireland, I created a character called Lady Muck – the flamboyant and dramatic owner of the castle. I really enjoy the show’s over-the-top, theatrical style.

Would you ever star on The Celebrity Traitors?
I can’t stand watching that! It immediately makes me angry and reactive – I’d start labeling everyone, lose my temper, and then have to apologize the next day. It’s especially upsetting because being falsely accused feels similar to being bullied. Despite all that, though, I still find myself watching it.
Is there a role you’d love to play?
I’d be thrilled to play iconic characters like Doctor Who, the captain of the Enterprise, or Miss Marple – I think I’d be a great Poirot too! Jessica Fletcher from Murder, She Wrote would also be fun. However, I’m really drawn to original stories. Producers often believe audiences want to see familiar reboots of popular shows, but I think people are actually craving something fresh and new.
