The upcoming season of Interview with the Vampire (also known as The Vampire Lestat) will feature a particularly dark and unsettling story taken directly from Anne Rice’s books.
Sam Reid, who plays Lestat, and Jacob Anderson, who plays Louis, will be back for the next season. The story will center on Lestat becoming a rockstar, hoping to gain a large following and change how he’s portrayed in a book written by Daniel (played by Eric Bogosian).
The show features some surprising twists, including a romantic relationship between Lestat and his mother, Gabriella (played by Jennifer Ehle, known as Gabrielle in the books). The trailer confirms this complex relationship will be a key part of the story.
In Anne Rice’s novels, Lestat transforms his dying mother into a vampire. However, this act fundamentally changes their relationship, blurring the lines between mother and son and developing into something both familial and romantic. The books depict moments of intimacy, including kisses, hinting at an unsettling, incestuous dynamic between them.

Following her transformation, Gabrielle’s personality shifts dramatically, and she loses interest in humanity. She also begins to favor wearing men’s clothes. Though she and Lestat eventually drift apart because their wants diverge, she frequently returns to help him when he faces difficulties.
Although the upcoming storyline will likely be difficult to watch, many fans are glad it’s finally being adapted. It’s a significant part of Lestat’s history and helps explain his personality. How the show will portray this relationship, though, is still uncertain.

The show will focus on the character Lestat, played by Reid, in season three, which is why the title has been updated after two seasons of focusing on Louis’s story.
This time, the famous vampire Lestat is going on tour, playing shows in multiple cities. As his fame and abilities grow, he’s also troubled by memories of people from his past.
Interview with the Vampire is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
