Dead City” will return for another season, with Seth Hoffman stepping in to manage the series following the departure of its original creator.
Since 2013, Hoffman has been involved in AMC’s “Walking Dead” Universe, creating one of the most praised episodes, “Too Far Gone.” Serving as a co-executive producer from 2013 to 2016, Hoffman also collaborated with showrunner Scott M. Gimple on the season 5 finale, “Conquer,” and wrote the highly-rated episode “No Way Out” that was broadcast during the show’s 177 episodes over its 11 seasons between 2010 and 2022.
We’re grateful to Eli Jorné for two seasons of ‘Dead City’, which skillfully steered the narrative of these beloved characters into intriguing new territories and enriched this bustling Universe by unveiling a fresh aspect of the walker apocalypse,” said Dan McDermott, head of entertainment and AMC Studios at AMC Networks. “As we proceed to craft more tales for our devoted ‘Walking Dead’ fanbase, we’re thrilled to have a seasoned ‘Walking Dead’ alum like Seth Hoffman leading the charge for a new season, joined by the exceptional Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. This upcoming season will introduce fresh enemies and alliances, and delve deeper into the complex relationship between Maggie and Negan.
According to Hoffman, it’s a pleasure to revisit the world of “The Walking Dead” and contribute to another season filled with compelling stories for this esteemed series. It’s an honor to plan the next phase in the epic journey of Maggie and Negan, set in the city known as “Dead City.” Collaborating with Lauren, Jeffrey, and Scott, who are exceptional creative minds, will be a joy as we work together to breathe life into this story.

I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be part of the team, serving as writer and showrunner, and also producing as an executive alongside Gimple, the mastermind behind The Walking Dead Universe, Cohan, Morgan, Brian Bockrath from The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, and Colin Walsh from NOS4A2. Our new series, Dead City, marks the third spinoff in the expansive Walking Dead Universe to secure a third season, following Fear the Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. Excitingly, Daryl Dixon is set to return with fresh episodes in September!
In summary, the second season of “Dead City” came to a close on June 22, airing on both AMC and AMC+. The finale saw Maggie, Negan, and Colonel Perlie Armstrong (played by Gaius Charles) joining forces as they braced for an invasion from the New Babylon Federation, who were heading towards the mainland to seize control of a methane supply controlled by “The Croat” (Željko Ivanek). At the same time, power broker The Dama (Lisa Emery) formed an alliance with Maggie’s son, Hershel Rhee (Logan Kim).
In the third installment of “The Walking Dead: Dead City,” a harmonious community emerges in Manhattan, led by Maggie and Negan following years of conflict. However, as turmoil brews within the city, they must confront whether they have truly moved past their previous struggles or if their troubled history could bring about disaster for the entire metropolis.
Production on The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3 is set to begin in Boston, MA, this Fall.
