Andrew Lincoln’s thriller Coldwater will not be returning for more episodes, ITV has confirmed.
The series, featuring Lincoln as the main character, tells the story of John, a man who relocates his family to the Scottish countryside after experiencing a difficult event in London. It originally aired in September 2025 and has six episodes.
He quickly begins to wish he hadn’t moved, as he discovers his neighbors, Tommy (Ewan Bremner) and Rebecca (Eve Myles), are hiding troubling secrets.
ITV expressed their strong support for the series Coldwater and the entire production team in a statement to The Sun.
“While there are no plans for a further series, we loved bringing this story to screen.”
Written by David Ireland, who also created “The Lovers”, the series features Indira Varma as John’s wife, Fiona. Samuel Bottomley, Abigail Lawrie, and Sanjeev Kohli are also among the actors appearing in the show.
Critics had a mixed reaction to the show. TopMob praised it as a gripping thriller that immediately grabs your attention and doesn’t let go, but also noted that occasionally the plot takes such unexpected turns it feels jarring and breaks the sense of realism.

In a recent interview with TopMob, Varma explained how the show uses the character of John, a stay-at-home dad, to examine toxic masculinity. He said John is easily influenced by Tommy, who he sees as the epitome of what a ‘real man’ should be, and John is desperately trying to regain that identity.
You know, watching this film, I was really struck by how director David explores modern masculinity. It’s fascinating to see him tackle the dynamic of a marriage where the wife, Fiona, is the primary earner – it really flips traditional roles and raises some interesting questions about how men are navigating that shift in society.
John feels a bit undermined by being a stay-at-home dad to two young children, especially since it’s a role still largely associated with women.
