*Warning: Major spoilers ahead for The War Between the Land and the Sea episodes 3 and 4.*
The official overnight ratings for ‘The War Between the Land and the Sea’ are now available.
A heartbreaking two-part episode of the Doctor Who spin-off aired on December 14th, featuring the unexpected death of a key character.
The third episode, “The Deep,” had an average of 2.45 million viewers, and the fourth episode, “The Witch of the Waterfall,” drew 1.7 million viewers. This represents a decrease of roughly 370,000 viewers compared to the first two episodes last week.
The initial overnight ratings should be viewed with caution because they don’t count people who watched the episodes later, using catch-up services.
In the third episode, Russell Tovey’s character, Barclay, ventured into the underwater world of the Homo Aqua at Salt’s (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) request. However, one of his companions made a reckless choice that now threatens everyone.

In the fourth episode, Barclay and Salt grew closer as they continued to evade capture, while Jemma Redgrave’s character, Kate Lethbridge Stewart, dealt with a painful loss.
Everyone is eagerly anticipating the final episode, and the show’s creator, Russell T Davies, has hinted at a surprising scene after the credits roll.

The showrunner described the finale as incredibly powerful, highlighting a standout performance from one of the actors that they believe viewers will find unforgettable.
