With a whopping forty episodes lined up, the masterminds behind Gumball’s comeback are diving headfirst back into this quirky world. In a recent interview, executive producers Matt Layzell and Erik Fountain shared insights about the animated show’s return, revealing that the bizarre escapades will offer commentary on real-world events when they debut on our screens next week.

Matt Layzell recently spoke with Animation Magazine regarding the initial episodes of the show. He explained that they approached each episode in one of three ways:

1. The first approach was based on personal or observed experiences, often involving awkward high school situations or humorous family dynamics.
2. The second approach focused on current events and attempted to add a comedic twist to social commentary.
3. The third approach was more experimental, using unique animation techniques or focusing on specific characters for an outlandish story.

Throughout the season, they aimed to ensure that each episode fit into one of these categories and was developed to its full potential.

Fortunately, those responsible for re-entering the animated world are eager to stay true to what made the original series a success. In an interview, Layzell mentioned their intention to adhere to the source material that propelled the show to popularity on Cartoon Network, “Our goal was essentially to continue where the show ended, meaning we wanted more of the same fantastic Gumball stories, revisiting some beloved characters. Essentially, we aimed to maintain the status quo while also enhancing and telling fresh tales with characters we’ve already established. The mission was to match or even surpass what fans were already accustomed to.

Layzell also mentioned the possibility of returning to work on the series post-conclusion of “The Amazing World of Gumball“. He said, “Working on Gumball, you tend to wear blinders. It’s an amazing playground where we continue to build upon six seasons of what I believe is the best animated TV show out there. You’re so immersed in it that you have to constantly push your own ideas and encourage everyone working on it to exceed their efforts. I became engrossed in this, and that’s one of the charms of Gumball; it has its unique world where you can easily lose yourself.
