This New PS5, PS4 JRPG Was Written by a 5-Year-Old

Most games feel like they were written by five-year-olds, but this one actually was!

Japanese-style turn-based RPG Axe Cop is launching on the PS5 and PS4 this week, from 4th May.

The game’s most unique feature is its story, which was actually written by Malachai Nicolle – a five-year-old, according to the official announcement.

You might remember this series starting as a webcomic in 2009. Remarkably, it was created by Malachai, who was only five years old at the time.

Ethan Nicolle, the older brother, created the artwork, and the series became so popular it was eventually published as a book and even turned into a TV show featuring Nick Offerman.

Here’s a bit more background, courtesy of the game’s blurb:

Five-year-old Malachai Nicolle is the creative mind behind Axe Cop! He loves dinosaurs, warthogs, and Santa Claus, and uses his imagination to create epic battles where Axe Cop and his team fight incredibly scary and disgusting villains.

Embark on exciting missions against wacky villains like Bad Santa Claus, Dr. Stinkyhead, and Dr. Doo Doo! Axe Cop is a fun RPG for both casual and serious gamers, with tons of strategy, quests, and story to keep you hooked.

The game will have traditional RPG battles, and it includes almost all the characters from the original Axe Cop comics – even minor or forgotten ones, like El Fuego, a wrestler who was magically transformed into a potato.

It’s a lighthearted game, and it will only cost $9.99 on the PlayStation Store. It’s been out on Steam for a few years now and has generally received good reviews.
