This One Secret Star Wars Detail Proves Darth Maul Has Found His New Apprentice (Did You Spot It?)

After four episodes of Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord, many fans are wondering if Devon, a survivor of Order 66, will become Darth Maul’s next apprentice. This idea gained traction early on because Devon is a Twi’lek, the same species as Maul’s former apprentice from the old Expanded Universe, Darth Talon. While Devon seems like a unique character, the story hints that he might follow a similar path.

As a huge Star Wars fan, I’ve been totally hooked on this new series, and it’s become pretty obvious that Darth Maul is really trying to turn Devon into his apprentice. He’s been laying it on thick, constantly trying to influence and control her. Right now, she’s resisting, which is great, but with so many episodes still to come in season one – and a second season already greenlit! – I’m worried. Maul is a master manipulator, and honestly, a recent detail in the show has me convinced she will eventually fall to the dark side and join him. It’s a compelling storyline, but it’s also making me nervous for Devon!

Devon Using Maul’s Lightsaber Could Signal Her Eventual Fall To The Dark Side

The third episode of Maul – Shadow Lord showed Maul trying to turn Devon to the dark side, which led to a surprising turn: Devon grabbed Maul’s lightsaber and fought back. While this seemed to prove her commitment to the light, the act of taking the saber is significant. Lightsabers aren’t just weapons; they contain kyber crystals that essentially have a life of their own and form a connection with whoever wields them.

Okay, so this is just my take, but it looks like that lightsaber—Maul’s old one—might be, like, connected to Devon now. Which is huge! It could mean she’s going to become a Jedi, maybe not in the traditional sense, but she’ll definitely be wielding a lightsaber again. Even if she doesn’t become a full-on Jedi, that moment of her picking it up and using it? That feels like a big hint about where her story is headed. I’m really curious to see what happens next!

What Would Devon’s Fall To The Dark Side Mean?

It would be a compelling story to see Devon turn to the dark side and team up with Maul. Maul has wanted an apprentice ever since he reappeared in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, hoping to recreate the traditional Sith Master-apprentice relationship. He actively searched for someone to join him, most notably in Star Wars Rebels, where he tried – and almost succeeded – in turning Ezra Bridger to the dark side.

It’s also fascinating to consider how Devon’s story connects to the broader narrative of Maul in Star Wars. Viewers already know Maul’s fate – he ultimately returns to Tatooine and dies at the hands of Obi-Wan Kenobi in Rebels, meaning his story can’t continue past that point. But Devon doesn’t share that limitation. If she were to become Maul’s apprentice, she could potentially become a Sith herself, allowing her story to extend beyond Rebels.

Devon’s Potential Star Wars Future

After decades of stories centered around the Jedi and Sith families, the Star Wars movies appear to be moving in a new direction. The only confirmed upcoming films, The Mandalorian and Grogu and Star Wars: Starfighter, don’t seem to involve Jedi or even the Force. This makes it unlikely we’ll see a major story about the Sith in theaters anytime soon.

Despite her fate in Maul – Shadow Lord, there are several possibilities for Devon to reappear in future Star Wars projects, whether in a movie or a TV series. Considering her age, where she currently fits in the Star Wars timeline, and the long lifespan of Twi’leks, she could potentially return during the New Republic era or even in stories set much further in the future. While less probable, there’s even a chance she could appear in one of the upcoming Star Wars movies that haven’t been scheduled for release yet.

Right now, this includes the planned Star Wars trilogy from Simon Kinberg and the upcoming film about Rey, called New Jedi Order. Given that these movies seem to be bringing the focus back to the Jedi, it would be exciting to see a Sith character reappear. Although her future is uncertain, Devon could potentially continue acting in the Star Wars universe for a long time after Maul – Shadow Lord, and it would be especially compelling if she played a Sith.
