Ben Affleck returns to action with his new movie, The Rip, now streaming on Netflix. Directed by Joe Carnahan (known for Narc and Smokin’ Aces), the film reunites Affleck with longtime friend and Good Will Hunting co-star Matt Damon. While inspired by a true story and the experiences of Miami-Dade police officer Chris Casiano, the movie presents a fictionalized version of events – Casiano serves as the real-life inspiration for Damon’s character, Dane Dumars.
In the movie, Dumars leads a special police team focused on narcotics. During a raid on a suspected drug house – tipped off by an anonymous source – his team doesn’t find drugs, but a huge stash of cartel money – tens of millions of dollars. Dumars’ friend and colleague, Sgt. JD Byrne, starts to worry that Dumars’ past issues are affecting his judgment and professionalism. The situation quickly becomes incredibly dangerous as the team realizes they can’t rely on anyone – not even other officers or fellow team members – and that trusting the wrong person could be fatal.
Viewers are quickly becoming fans of the new Netflix film, The Rip. Once the fast-paced action is over, many are searching for something similar to keep the excitement going. Fortunately, Ben Affleck has another recent action movie available on Netflix that’s perfect to watch right after The Rip.
Netflix’s Triple Frontier Is A Must-Watch Movie After The Rip

Before facing difficulties with the film Kraven the Hunter, director J.C. Chandor had a success with Netflix’s Triple Frontier in 2019. The project had been in development in Hollywood since 2010, with several actors – including Tom Hanks, Johnny Depp, Channing Tatum, and Tom Hardy – considered for roles over the years. Originally, Kathryn Bigelow (known for The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty) was set to direct. After Paramount abandoned the film following seven years of delays, Netflix took over and finally brought it to life.
The movie features Ben Affleck as Tom “Redfly” Davis, a former Delta Force operative. He’s pulled back into action by his friend, “Pope” Garcia (Oscar Isaac), for a risky job: breaking into a Colombian drug lord’s home to steal $75 million before the authorities can. The plan gets complicated when they discover a much larger sum of money hidden inside – more than they can realistically carry away before they have to leave.
At first glance, Triple Frontier seems similar to the plot of The Rip, and that comparison isn’t entirely off base. However, Triple Frontier really focuses on the dynamic between its cast – Ben Affleck and Oscar Isaac are joined by Charlie Hunnam, Garrett Hedlund, Pedro Pascal, and Adria Arjona. Most of the movie revolves around these actors interacting with each other, punctuated by thrilling chases and intense gunfights.
When ComicBook reviewed Triple Frontier, they initially thought it might be just another typical, star-studded Netflix movie – something to quickly grab attention but lacking depth. However, they were pleasantly surprised! Unlike films like Bird Box which seemed designed only to become a trending topic, Triple Frontier proved to be genuinely good – a refreshing change for Netflix releases.
You can watch both Triple Frontier and The Rip on Netflix right now! Afterwards, join the conversation about them on the ComicBook Forum.
