Tom Brady Reveals Why the NFL Rejected His Comeback Pitch

Tom Brady was a bit deflated by the NFL’s response to his offer to un-retire.

Three years after retiring from his 23-year NFL career, the former quarterback said he thought about making a comeback, but the league didn’t want him to.

The reason why? Tom is currently a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders.

In a recent interview with CNBC, the 48-year-old said they looked into several options, but ‘they’ weren’t enthusiastic about one particular idea. He added that he’s enjoying his retirement.

Tom owning part of the Raiders would be a problem because the NFL doesn’t allow current players or staff to have ownership in a team.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve been following this situation closely, and the NFL has pointed out another tricky part. Basically, if a player also owned a piece of the team, it would create some real headaches with the league’s salary cap rules. It’s a complex financial issue that needs to be carefully considered.

If Tom Brady truly wants to play football again, one option would be to sell his part ownership of the Raiders. This idea isn’t far-fetched, especially considering he’s un-retired from football before. He shares three children – Benjamin (16) and Vivian (13) with his ex-wife Gisele Bündchen, and Jack (18) with ex-girlfriend Bridget Moynahan.

In February 2022, Tom first said he was retiring, but just a few weeks later he changed his mind and decided to play another season. He realized he wasn’t ready to stop playing yet.

I spoke with my family about it and told them I was considering playing one more season if they were on board,” said the seven-time Super Bowl champion, who played 20 seasons with the Patriots and finished his career with three seasons in Tampa Bay. He told Complex in April 2022 that his wife was incredibly supportive, saying she wanted him to be happy, enjoy himself, and go out and win.

Tom, who finalized his divorce from Gisele in October 2022, explained his reason for returning to the game: “I came back to win. At this stage in my career, that’s my only motivation.”

It doesn’t appear the professional athlete plans to play again, as he’s currently focused on his advisory position with the Raiders.

He told CNBC that he’s always open to taking calls from anyone who needs to reach him. He expressed his desire to help everyone thrive and build a successful, winning environment for the Raiders in Las Vegas, ultimately restoring the team to its former greatness, and he wants to contribute to that process.

Tom recently made a playful comment about being able to still compete at a high level if he came back to football. However, he also made it clear that he isn’t prepared to commit to the demands of a full NFL season and values spending time with his children.

Tom explained to Shaquille O’Neal and Adam Lefkoe on The Big Podcast with Shaq in December that he wasn’t interested in committing to playing again. He said it would require a lot of training, and he simply doesn’t want to put in that effort anymore.
