Tom Cruise‘s next mission? Defining his love of cinema.
Tom Cruise received an honorary Oscar at the Governors Awards in Los Angeles on November 16th, and afterward spoke about his strong commitment to filmmaking.
Tom shared that his passion for movies started when he was very young. He recalled being a small child in a movie theater, mesmerized by the bright light from the projector hitting the screen. He said it felt like the world suddenly expanded beyond anything he’d ever known, as reported by People magazine.
The 63-year-old recalls his earliest memories being at the movies, which sparked his lifelong love of film and led to a career with over 50 films to his name.
You know, looking back, it really ignited something within me – a deep desire to explore, to learn everything I could, and to truly understand people. It wasn’t just about seeing new places, though that was part of it. It was about wanting to build worlds, craft stories, and connect with the human experience. It completely shifted my perspective. I suddenly realized life wasn’t limited by what I thought was possible – my imagination took off, and I understood there was so much more out there waiting to be discovered.
He described that moment of insight as sparking a lifelong passion for exploration and discovery, a path he’s been committed to ever since.
Over his 44-year career in movies, Tom Cruise has become known for doing his own dangerous stunts. One famous example is when he hung off the side of a plane during takeoff for the film Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation. He shares three children: Bella and Connor with ex-wife Nicole Kidman, and Suri with ex-wife Katie Holmes.

For Tom, movies aren’t just about spectacular action; they’ve given him a chance to experience different cultures and ways of life.
He explained that it ignited a passion for exploration, learning, and understanding people. This led him to create characters, tell stories, and experience the world. It fundamentally changed his perspective, revealing possibilities beyond what he had previously imagined for his own life.

Tom Cruise met Nicole Kidman while filming the movie Days of Thunder in 1990, around the time he was getting divorced from his first wife, Mimi Rogers. Once his divorce was finalized, he proposed to Kidman, and the couple married on Christmas Eve that same year.
Tom described meeting his soulmate as an instant connection, telling Vanity Fair in 1994 that she simply understood him. He felt like his life had begun anew.
The couple announced their divorce in February 2001, explaining that their busy and separate careers had created difficulties. However, it’s not certain if both parties agreed with this explanation.
Looking back, it’s finally becoming clear to me why things ended with him. It didn’t make any sense at the time, but now, years later, I’m starting to see the reasons. I really didn’t understand it then, but I do now.
Earlier that year, her ex-partner told the publication that they both understood the reasons for the split. He expressed his good wishes for her, acknowledging she was the mother of his children, and stated he was ready to move forward, emphasizing he didn’t say this casually.

Tom and Nicole adopted their eldest child, Isabella, when she was born on Dec. 22, 1992.
Tom confessed he was terrified when he changed his first diaper. In a 1994 interview, he explained that he and Nicole often discussed having children, but their busy careers always seemed to get in the way. Eventually, they started wondering when the right time would be. He described how those conversations would happen late at night, simply thinking about what it would be like to have a child and how it would fit into their lives. He shared that he and Nicole felt they were becoming a family.
Nicole mentioned they were planning to expand their family, either through having more children, adopting, or ideally, doing both.
She told the magazine that Isabella felt like fate. “I believe things happen when they’re supposed to, and you have to embrace those moments,” she explained. “It just felt meant to be.”
In a 2007 interview with Vanity Fair, she explained that she and Tom decided to adopt after experiencing a miscarriage. She shared that having children was something she and Tom wanted from the beginning of their marriage, and the loss of their baby was deeply upsetting. It was then that they began the process of adopting Bella.
She admitted there was a lot more to the story, explaining she generally kept things private. She hinted that she might share the full details sometime in the future.

Isabella is an artist who trained at the Delamar Academy of Make-Up and Hair in London. She lives in England with her husband, Max Parker.
People were surprised that the bride’s parents didn’t come to her wedding in 2015, which was held at the Dorchester hotel in London.
She responded sharply to the Daily Mail Online when asked about her relationship with Tom and Nicole, stating, ‘They are my parents. Anyone who claims differently is lying.’
It was a really intimate wedding, honestly. Just a small group of their closest friends were there, and surprisingly, the groom’s parents weren’t able to make it. I read that his mom, Beverly Parker, told the Mail they decided to stay away because they didn’t want to attract a lot of media attention. She did say they both looked lovely and she’s genuinely happy for them – which is lovely to hear, of course!
Max explained that while his wife had stepped back from public life, the real difficulty wasn’t for them as a couple, but for those around them. He described it as an unusual situation for everyone else.
According to reports in People magazine, Tom supported Max and was comfortable with missing the wedding. He also covered the wedding costs, and Nicole was simply happy to see her daughter content.

Connor completed the family when he was adopted as a baby on January 17, 1995. He works as a musician and DJ, and is said to currently live in Miami.
I’ve been a huge fan of Nicole Kidman for years, and I was so thrilled when she married Keith Urban back in 2006! They’ve built such a beautiful family together. I remember being so happy to hear about their first daughter, Sunday Rose, born in 2008, and then again when they welcomed Faith Margaret in 2010 – she was born via gestational surrogate. They’re a truly lovely couple and I love seeing their family grow.
Speaking to HELLO! about Connor and Isabella’s decision to live with their father after the divorce, Nicole Kidman expressed her sadness, saying, “I wish they would live with us, but you have to accept their choices.” The children did, however, attend Nicole and Keith Urban’s wedding in Australia.

In a 2014 interview with Now to Love, Nicole described her children, Isabella and Connor, as generous, kind, and hardworking – qualities she deeply admired.
After a few years, she admitted that her two older children, like their father, were involved in Scientology. However, despite rumors to the contrary, this hadn’t caused any problems in their relationship.
Speaking to Australian Who magazine in 2018, the Academy Award-winning actress explained that her children are adults capable of making their own choices. She emphasized that, as a mother, her role is to love them, even though they’ve chosen to be Scientologists.

And, like his sister, Connor has never said a cross word about his mom.
He told Australia’s Woman’s Day in 2014, while performing as a DJ at a festival, how much he loved his mother. He emphasized their strong bond, saying he didn’t care what others thought, and that family was the most important thing to him.
He also loved music, he added, “but the family comes before everything else.”

When Tom began dating the actress from Dawson’s Creek in 2005, he was very open about his feelings, enthusiastically telling Oprah Winfrey that he was in love with her.
He explained that when it comes to sharing personal details, he doesn’t worry about how others will react. He simply wants to be open about his life with this particular woman, whom he describes as incredible and deserving of his respect. He wants to show he has nothing to hide and is genuinely happy, emphasizing, ‘I’m happy, man!’

The actor from Top Gun proposed to his partner at the top of the Eiffel Tower in June 2005, just eight weeks after they first started dating.
Their extravagant wedding took place on November 18, 2006, at the historic Odescalchi Castle in Bracciano, Italy. Their children, Suri, Connor, and Bella, were there, along with celebrities like Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, and Brooke Shields with her husband, Chris Henchy.

Tom and Katie’s daughter was born April 18, 2006.
Suri Cruise was first presented to the public on the cover of Vanity Fair in October 2006. The photo, taken by Annie Leibovitz and initially shown on the CBS Evening News on September 5th, featured the 3-month-old baby nestled in her father’s leather jacket. This image was a tribute to a well-known photograph of Paul McCartney holding his daughter Mary, taken by Linda McCartney and used on his 1970 album McCartney.
“She’s a glorious girl,” Katie told the magazine. “She’s the miracle of our life.”
Tom explained they discovered the name in a baby book given to them by friends, and they immediately fell in love with it. He added that they later learned it meant ‘red rose,’ which was a happy surprise. ‘Suri—it was the perfect name,’ he said.
The article mentioned that the whole family – Conor, Bella, and the others – were comfortably together at Tom’s house in Telluride, which he had sold in 2021 for $39.5 million.
Katie shared how sweet it was to watch her children with their baby sister, and to hear them excitedly planning adventures together. Tom added that seeing Bella and Connor grow up was incredibly touching, and gave him a glimpse into the wonderful people they would become.

Katie began divorce proceedings in June 2012, with her lawyer stating that her main priority is, and always has been, the well-being of her daughter.
Tom’s rep told TopMob News that he “is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children.”
The legal issues were resolved fairly quickly, and both parents agreed that Suri would mainly live with her mother, while her father would have plenty of time to visit. Katie began dividing her time between New York and Los Angeles, and moved Suri back to the East Coast to attend school.

Despite her fame from films like Batman Begins, Katie Holmes prioritized giving her daughter Suri a normal upbringing. She did everyday things like taking Suri to school and gymnastics, just like other moms in Manhattan. Though the paparazzi constantly took photos, Katie rarely shared pictures of Suri online. However, they were often spotted at sporting events and frequently attended Broadway shows together.
In a 2017 interview with Town & Country, she explained that her child is her top priority and raising her well is currently her main focus. She emphasized the importance of being present and ensuring her daughter has a happy and secure childhood, adding that seeing her child thrive is the most rewarding thing in the world, even more so than her career accomplishments.
She explained that as children grow, they naturally become more independent, which is a good thing, even though it can be emotionally difficult for parents to watch.

Suri doesn’t seem interested in acting just yet, but she did sing the opening song, a cover of “Blue Moon,” for Alone Together. This romantic comedy was written, directed, and starred her mother, who was inspired by the pandemic. Suri also lent her voice to her mother’s film, Rare Objects.
Katie shared with Glamour in March 2023 that she hopes to continue collaborating with this particular actress on her films, always inviting her to participate. She explained that these collaborations, like others she values, stem from the special bond formed on set, where cast and crew become a close-knit, supportive, and creatively inspiring family.
As Suri was nearing her 17th birthday, she shared how important it is to her to protect her daughter, who grew up in the public eye. She expressed deep gratitude for being a parent and highlighted her daughter’s remarkable character.
