Tom Holland’s Venomized Spider-Man Steals From This Generation’s Best Sci-Fi Villain In Dark MCU Art

Okay, so I just saw some incredible fan art, and it’s got me thinking about where Marvel Studios might take Spider-Man next. It imagines Tom Holland’s Spider-Man rocking the black Venom suit, but with a really cool, unexpected twist – it blends him with a villain from a recent TV show! Ever since Holland first swung into the MCU back in Captain America: Civil War in 2016, fans have been waiting for the Venom Symbiote to show up and maybe…corrupt Peter Parker a little. This isn’t a new idea – Spider-Man actually got that upgrade way back in the 1984 Secret Wars comics – and honestly, seeing this art makes me think it could happen in the MCU sooner rather than later. It’s a seriously striking image and definitely got me hyped!

Although it’s not official, rumors are circulating that Tom Holland will reprise his role as Spider-Man in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars films. Some fans believe this would be an ideal opportunity to give his Spider-Man the Venom symbiote upgrade. An artist on Instagram, @spdrmnkyxxiii, recently created fan art depicting this possibility with a unique twist: a Venom Spider-Man designed to resemble Vecna, the powerful villain from Stranger Things. Many think this design would be a great fit for the Venom character within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Why Vecna is the Perfect Blueprint for the MCU’s Venom Spider-Man

Venom has appeared in a few movies already, starting with Topher Grace as Eddie Brock in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3 back in 2007. Later, Tom Hardy played the role in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. Although both versions had things in common, they looked quite different – the Spider-Man 3 Venom was thinner and more human, while the SSU version was larger and more alien. Both designs were inspired by the original Marvel comics, but giving Venom a fresh look for the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be a smart move for Marvel Studios.

To truly make their version of Venom stand out, Marvel Studios could draw inspiration from the character’s darker, more frightening side, specifically body horror. The character Vecna from Stranger Things offers a good example. Vecna began as Henry Creel (played by Jamie Campbell Bower), a prisoner whose psychic powers were awakened, then Eleven sent him to an alternate dimension. This dimension warped and disfigured Creel, and he developed the ability to control others, becoming a truly terrifying villain. Marvel could explore similar themes with Venom.

Although Sony’s Spider-Man movies, especially the Venom trilogy (Venom, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, and Venom: The Last Dance), hinted at disturbing and graphic body horror, it wasn’t a central part of Tom Hardy’s portrayal of Venom. The process of Venom bonding with hosts like Peter Parker is actually a brutal and violent one, and it would be impactful to showcase that in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Russo brothers could be ideal directors for this, perhaps in future films like Doomsday and Secret Wars. It would be exciting to see a truly frightening and powerful Venom, similar in tone to the character Vecna, but only time will tell what Marvel has planned for Venom and Spider-Man.
