As a huge movie fan, I’m really excited to hear that a legendary actress is joining Sophie Turner in the upcoming Tomb Raider series on Prime Video! Apparently, they’re planning to start filming around January 19, 2026, which feels like a ways off, but totally worth the wait if it means a great Lara Croft adaptation.
Who is joining the Tomb Raider TV show?
I just read some exciting news! Apparently, Sigourney Weaver – yes, the Ripley from Alien and Neytiri from Avatar – is in talks to join the new live-action Tomb Raider series. I’ve been following this project for a while now, and it’s great to see Phoebe Waller-Bridge still involved – she’s been working on it for over two years as the creator, writer, and an executive producer. Chad Hodge is co-showrunning and Jonathan Van Tulleken is directing, which is a solid team. Plus, it sounds like Taylor Turner and Martin Bobb-Semple are already on board as series regulars, so things are really starting to come together!
I’m really excited about this new Tomb Raider movie! They’re keeping most of the story and characters a secret for now, but it sounds like it’s going to be a huge, action-packed adventure all over the world. It’s the latest attempt to bring the popular Crystal Dynamics video game to life on the big screen, following Angelina Jolie’s films and Alicia Vikander’s take on Lara Croft a few years back. Phoebe Waller-Bridge is involved, which is fantastic – she’s writing the script and also producing, thanks to her deal with Amazon MGM Studios. I have high hopes!
When the series was first announced, Phoebe Waller-Bridge said her younger self would be thrilled. She explained that ‘Tomb Raider’ has always been important to her, and she’s excited to bring the story to television with a dedicated team. Lara Croft holds a special place in her heart – and for many others – and she’s eager to begin this new journey, ‘bats and all.’
