Toy Story 5: Release date, plot and trailer for new Pixar film

It’s been nearly seven years since the last Toy Story movie came out, but fans can finally look forward to the fifth film in the series.

Although the recent movie Lightyear, featuring Chris Evans and connected to the Toy Story universe, was released in 2022, it’s been some time since fans have seen the main Toy Story characters together in a new film.

Disney CEO Bob Iger announced Toy Story 5 was happening back in 2023, and after a bit of development, it’s finally nearing release, with some exciting trailers giving us a sneak peek.

With the actors, story, and release date set, all that’s left is for fans to eagerly await the return of the beloved toys from their childhood.

Wondering what’s in store for the next movie? Here’s everything you need to know about Toy Story 5.

When will Toy Story 5 be released?

Disney has announced the UK release date for the new film will be Friday, June 19, 2026. This is the same date the film will be released worldwide, meaning fans around the globe can experience the latest movie in the series together.

Toy Story 5 was confirmed in 2023, and it’s moving into production much quicker than the last movie. It took over five years from announcement to release for Toy Story 4, but fans won’t have to wait nearly as long for the next installment.

What will Toy Story 5 be about?

The next Toy Story movie will feature a new villain: Lilypad, a smart tablet shaped like a frog and voiced by Greta Lee. Lilypad has captured Bonnie’s complete focus, becoming a challenge for Woody and the gang.

Andrew Stanton, who has written for the Toy Story franchise for years, will direct the fifth movie. At a recent event, he revealed the main conflict: Woody and the gang will face new challenges as kids become more interested in electronic toys.

Let’s face it, kids have a lot of digital distractions these days – phones, tablets, and other tech. So, this year, we’re combining the fun of traditional toys with the appeal of technology.

The movie features a classic Toy Story element: a bunch of Buzz Lightyear action figures, all acting like soldiers, who create trouble for the main characters.

Stanton said there’s a small problem: fifty Buzz Lightyear action figures were accidentally made so they can’t switch out of toy mode, and this is going to cause significant issues.

“It’s going to be so fun, and we can’t wait for you all to see it.”

Toy Story 5 cast – who will be returning for the fifth film?

In 2023, Tim Allen announced on X (formerly Twitter) that he’s returning to voice Buzz Lightyear. Naturally, Tom Hanks will also reprise his role as Woody – the two characters are inseparable in the Toy Story films!

Good news for fans! Most of the beloved characters from Toy Story 4 will be returning, including Andy’s original toys, Bonnie’s toys like Forky, and the friends Woody made with Bo Peep, such as Duke Caboom.

Don Rickles and Estelle Harris, the voices of Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head, sadly will not be returning for future films. Rickles passed away in 2017, but appeared in the fourth movie using previously recorded material, and Harris died in 2022.

For the upcoming movies, new voice actors have been chosen. Jeff Bergman, a well-known voice actor, will now play Mr. Potato Head, and Anna Vocino will voice his wife.

There have been a couple of changes to the voice cast. Timothy Dalton, who previously voiced Mr. Pricklepants, has been replaced by John Hopkins, known for his roles in Poldark and Midsomer Murders. Additionally, Scarlett Spears will now voice the character of Bonnie, taking over from Madeleine McGraw.

Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, who voiced Ducky and Bunny in Toy Story 4, aren’t returning for this film. However, the voice cast now includes new actors like Greta Lee, Ernie Hudson, Craig Robinson, and Conan O’Brien.

Here is the cast of Toy Story 5:
