Tramell Tillman’s outie is grateful for his mom.
When the actor from *Severance* won an Emmy Award on September 14th, 2025, he started his acceptance speech with a quote from his mother, who was watching proudly from the audience. The ceremony, hosted by comedian Nate Bargatze, took place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
I always tell people, we really do prioritize what matters most to us. It’s amazing how easily we remember the things we *want* to remember, and how we naturally find time for what we truly care about. It all comes down to putting in the effort, consistently showing up, and honestly, just making good choices – because let’s be real, nobody wants to be caught off guard or make things awkward for anyone else!
The actor, making history as the first Black man to win an award for best supporting actor in a drama series, jokingly said, “My very first acting coach was a hard one, but that’s just what great moms are like.”
Once the audience finished laughing, the camera showed the performer’s mother. She was visibly moved, holding her hand to her heart as she watched him with tears in her eyes.
Tramell continued, “Mom, you were always there for me, even when nobody else was. I carry your kindness with me, and this is my way of showing you how much it means to me.”
He finished his speech by expressing gratitude to the Academy, saying he was incredibly thankful, overwhelmed with emotion, and deeply honored. He then shared a sentiment his mother often expressed: a joyful acknowledgment of God’s grace.
Tramell, nominated for an award with his fellow actors Zach Cherry and John Turturro, sweetly thanked his mother both from the stage and while speaking on the red carpet.
