Transformers Officially Reveals Optimus Prime’s Predecessor in New Age of the Primes Release

While Optimus Prime is the most famous Autobot leader, he wasn’t the first to carry the Matrix of Leadership. Now, a toy version of one of these earlier leaders has been released, and includes an accessory that suggests he might actually be the most significant Prime of all.

Hasbro recently showed off the first look at the Transformers: Age of the Primes Sentinel Prime Artifact Pack. The set includes a figure of Sentinel Prime, who was Optimus Prime’s predecessor, and a unique artifact that combines the power of the Primes. While several figures of this character have been released over the last ten years, this one is based on a specific, less common design.

Sentinel Prime Mobilizes in the Latest Age of the Primes Release

Sentinel Prime is a Voyager-Class action figure, and a significant update to the previous Decepticon Tarn figure from the Transformers: Legacy line. Like Tarn, Sentinel Prime’s design is based on his look from the IDW Transformers comic books. He transforms into a unique, stylized Cybertronian tank, which gives him a distinctive appearance within the Transformers universe.

In tank mode, Sentinel’s turrets can transform into blasters that attach to his back when he changes to robot mode. He also carries an additional weapon in this configuration. But his most important feature is the Conduit – a device designed to hold the special “Prime artifacts” that come with other figures in the Age of Primes line. If you collect all 13 artifacts and connect them, the Conduit can also be attached to Sentinel while he’s in tank mode.

The Sentinel Prime action figure stands approximately 7.25 inches tall in robot form and can transform in 25 steps. It’s available starting around November 1, 2026. This toy is a rare representation of Sentinel Prime based on his appearance in the IDW comic books, reflecting a significant role the character gained about twenty years ago.

Although some versions of Sentinel Prime were depicted as Optimus Prime’s direct predecessor, others were shown as rivals or even evil imposters.
