Well, it’s official – the ElfQuest TV show at Fox isn’t happening. Richard Pini, one of the original creators, has confirmed it. Honestly, it’s a bit of a bummer. This has been a passion project for them for almost fifty years – trying to get this amazing fantasy series adapted for the screen. And now, they’ve decided to just put a stop to all further attempts at adaptations. It’s sad news for fans like me who were really hoping to see ElfQuest come to life on TV.
Richard Pini says animated TV adaptation of ElfQuest has been canceled at Fox
Richard Pini has announced that the animated ElfQuest TV series planned for Fox is no longer moving forward. This marks the end of yet another effort to bring the popular fantasy series to television. The decision came after Fox’s option on the project expired, and Pini, along with co-creator Wendy Pini, have chosen not to continue developing it at this time.
Richard Pini explained that the deal with Fox fell through on January 23rd, ending years of effort. He said that after six more years of work, the option expired, and he and Wendy decided it was time to stop pursuing the project after nearly 50 years of trying.
Pini confirmed that he and Wendy have decided not to pursue any further adaptations of their work. They won’t be seeking new deals, holding meetings, or launching crowdfunding campaigns. As he put it, they’re finished with this project and at peace with their decision, which he surprisingly considers a positive outcome.
Even though the recent plans didn’t work out, Pini offered a positive outlook on the future of ElfQuest, suggesting that the best version of the story is already alive in the imaginations of its fans. He explained that the ‘perfect ElfQuest movie’ already exists because readers have essentially created it themselves, envisioning everything from the actors to the soundtrack.
Pini also thought an animated series in the 1980s could have actually held the franchise back from becoming as big as it did.
