Rumors suggest two new Mario games are in development for the Nintendo Switch 2. One is expected to launch in 2027, while the release date for the other is currently unknown. Both games will be exclusive to the Switch 2, continuing the tradition for Mario titles. One is a traditional Mario adventure, and the other is a spin-off featuring a supporting character from the Mario universe.
Industry insider Nick Baker, known for accurate leaks about Xbox and other platforms like Nintendo and Fortnite, reports that a new Super Mario Maker 3 is in development for the next Nintendo Switch. However, he hasn’t shared any details about when it might be revealed or released. Baker also says a new Luigi’s Mansion game – Luigi’s Mansion 4 – is planned for the Switch 2, currently aiming for a 2027 release. That’s all the information available at this time.
Super Mario Maker 3
The original Super Mario Maker first launched in 2015, and for a while, it was only available on the Wii U. A version was later released for the Nintendo 3DS in 2016. In 2019, Nintendo released Super Mario Maker 2 for the Switch. While the first game is no longer available and its online features have been discontinued, Super Mario Maker 2 is still playable and remains the most recent game in the series, seven years after its release.
Luigi’s Mansion 4
The first Luigi’s Mansion game came out in 2001 on the Nintendo GameCube. After a long 12-year wait, the series returned with Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon for the Nintendo 3DS in 2013. Most recently, Luigi’s Mansion 3 was released for the Nintendo Switch in 2019, six years after the previous installment.
Neither of these game series has appeared since the start of the 2020s, and fans are anticipating their comeback. It’s unclear how Nintendo could make a new Super Mario Maker 3 feel innovative, but one possibility is expanding the gameplay to include 3D levels.
