For science fiction fans, the 1980s were a truly special time. While today’s sci-fi films are also great, they don’t quite match the impact of the ’80s. That decade cemented the blockbuster movie format and gave us iconic films like Back to the Future, Blade Runner, and The Empire Strikes Back, which are still popular today. Now, fans can stream two of these ’80s classics on Hulu, especially with a new sequel on the way.
While fans eagerly anticipate updates on the next Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire movie, they can now enjoy the original 1984 Ghostbusters and its 1989 sequel on Hulu. Both films, starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Harold Ramis as a team of quirky ghost hunters, became available on February 1st. Later this month, on February 16th, Ghostbusters: Afterlife will also be added to Hulu, making almost the entire Ghostbusters series available on the platform. The only Ghostbusters movie missing will be the 2016 reboot. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is also currently streaming on Hulu.
Ghostbusters Blended Sci-Fi and Comedy To Launch One of the Best Sci-Fi Franchises Ever
The original Ghostbusters is a truly beloved film. It changed the game for comedy blockbusters by cleverly mixing witty humor with imaginative science fiction, horror, and action – a combination that proved hugely popular. Its incredible practical effects, miniatures, and stop-motion animation still look fantastic and helped bring the film’s memorable monsters to life, successfully blending sci-fi and comedy. With a thrilling, creative story that appeals to everyone, and a fantastic cast of characters, Ghostbusters became a lasting cultural icon and remains incredibly entertaining even now.
The movie Ghostbusters was a huge hit. It earned $282 million at the box office in 1984, making it the second-highest-grossing film of the year, and quickly became a classic sci-fi movie of the 1980s. It launched a beloved franchise that continues today with new movies and TV shows. The franchise saw a revival with Afterlife in 2021, and another sequel, Frozen Empire, is planned, although details are currently limited, except for confirmation from Dan Aykroyd that it’s in development.
What’s New on Hulu?
