Ubisoft Delays Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Remake Along With 6 Other Games

It’s early in 2026, but gamers are already facing some setbacks. Highly anticipated games, like the free-to-play RPG Seven Deadly Sins: Origin, have been delayed. Now, Ubisoft, a major game developer, has announced a restructuring that includes canceling several projects. Reports indicate the remake of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time is among the six games scrapped. In addition, Ubisoft has postponed the release of seven other games, possibly including the remake of Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag.

Following the closure of Ubisoft’s Halifax studio last year, the company is now shutting down its Stockholm branch and implementing further layoffs across other locations. As a result, several major projects, including a remake of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, have been cancelled. Ubisoft has also announced delays for seven other games. While the full list of delayed titles hasn’t been released, IGN reports that the game previously thought to be a remake of Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag is among them.

Ubisoft Shifts Focus to Open-World and Live-Service Games with Latest Restructuring

Ubisoft fans hoping for several major game releases this year may be disappointed. The company has cancelled five big projects and delayed seven others, potentially making 2026 a slow year for new games. The remake of the popular Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag, which has been the subject of rumors, was originally planned for release before April of this year. While Ubisoft hasn’t officially confirmed it’s a Black Flag remake, the project is among those delayed, and is now expected to launch by April 2027.

Despite recent changes, Ubisoft isn’t abandoning its major franchises. The company is reorganizing into 5 creative teams, each with a specific area of focus. The first team will concentrate on Ubisoft’s biggest titles, including Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six. This means the long-anticipated project, believed to be a remake of Black Flag, will probably still happen, though it might take longer than expected.

Each of our creative teams will specialize in different types of games. Creative House 2 will focus on shooter games like Ghost Recon, while House 3 will handle ongoing live-service titles, including Skull and Bones and The Crew. Creative House 4 will be responsible for story-rich and fantasy games, including the highly anticipated Beyond Good and Evil 2. Finally, Creative House 5 will focus on casual games such as Just Dance. We haven’t released details about which games have been delayed, but it sounds like Beyond Good and Evil 2 is still in development and hasn’t been cancelled.

Ubisoft is changing its strategy to concentrate more on large, open-world games and games that are continuously updated with new content. It’s uncertain how this will affect their current projects, especially since they’ve already cancelled five games and postponed seven others. As a result, it’s hard to say what fans can look forward to in 2026. Unfortunately, it seems an Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag remake isn’t likely to be released soon. If the remake is the project that was recently pushed back to 2027, we’ll have to wait over a year for it.
