After being unavailable for eleven years, a Ubisoft game is back on sale. Originally released in 2010 and removed from stores in 2015, its return after sixteen years is unexpected. It’s unusual for a game to disappear for so long and then reappear, especially since Ubisoft no longer publishes it – they’ve sold those rights to another company.
2010 was a fantastic year for gaming, with huge titles like Red Dead Redemption, Mass Effect 2, Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, Super Mario Galaxy 2, God of War III, Halo Reach, and Call of Duty: Black Ops. It’s easy to forget some games from that year, and R.U.S.E., a real-time strategy game by Eugen Systems and published by Ubisoft, is one of them. That’s not because it was a bad game – actually, it was quite good! It just didn’t get the same level of attention as those other blockbuster releases back in 2010. But now, it’s back!
A Forgotten Ubisoft Game
Although the game remained playable on Xbox 360 until 2022, it was removed from Steam and PlayStation 3 much earlier, in 2015. It wasn’t expected to return to PC digital stores, but it has! The game, originally released as a standalone title in 2010, never received a sequel and is now owned by Eugen Systems.
The PC game, rated 78 on Metacritic, is now available for $30. Players are thrilled to have it back, giving it an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating with 98% approval. If you owned the game before, you can get it and all its downloadable content for free. Plus, it now fully supports the Steam Deck.
The game was previously removed from sale because licenses for some of the military equipment featured in it had expired. It’s currently unknown what steps were taken to allow it to be re-released on PC.
