Unbelievable Berserk Crossover Resurfaces, Leaving Fans Scratching Their Heads

As a long-time fan of Berserk, I’ve always thought it was strange how rarely its characters have crossed over into other anime worlds. We’ve seen so many team-ups – like the Straw Hat Pirates with the Z-Fighters – but Guts and the Band of the Hawk have mostly stayed within their own dark universe. That’s why I was so surprised to learn about a crossover that actually happened… way back in the past! Apparently, there’s a story where Guts met Lara Croft, and it’s a pretty unbelievable pairing that many fans probably don’t even know about.

Years ago, the online retailer GameDealer.com created a funny advertisement featuring characters from Berserk and Tomb Raider. It showed Guts and Lara Croft together, with the tagline, “Guts and Lara would play with each other…not with you.” The crossover was inspired by the 1999 Sega Dreamcast game, Sword of The Berserk: Guts’ Rage. This game expanded the Berserk story with a new threat, using the heroes’ memories against them. While several Berserk games have been released over the years, the Dreamcast version remains particularly memorable. You can see the amusing advertisement below.

The Mysterious Future of Berserk

Currently, the future of Berserk across anime and manga is uncertain. The last anime adaptation was Berserk: Memorial Edition, which covered the Golden Age Arc, and there’s no confirmation if a new series or movie is planned, despite many chapters remaining unadapted. Fans are also waiting for news on when the next chapter of the manga will be released.

It’s been over a year since the manga Berserk continued after the sad passing of its creator, Kentaro Miura. Now under the direction of Kouji Mori and Studio Gaga, the series is on hold, which makes the last cliffhanger even more frustrating. Guts is stuck in a strange cave within the Kushan Empire, and given how troubled he is, it’s unclear if he’ll ever be able to escape.

The last video game featuring Guts from the Berserk series was Berserk And The Band of The Hawk in 2017. It didn’t tell a new story like an older game based on the series, but it did recreate many of the most memorable moments from the dark anime. While Lara Croft wasn’t included, her weaponry would have been a great asset in Guts’ challenging fights.
