Untangling Hailey Bieber and Dad Stephen Baldwin’s Complex Family Tree

Hailey Bieber was surprised to find that people were most upset with her acknowledging her privileged background – what’s known as being a ‘nepo baby.’

Wearing that “nepo baby” t-shirt in January 2023 was a playful way for the Rhode founder to address the growing conversation about how having family connections in the entertainment industry can create opportunities.

I wore the T-shirt to acknowledge the conversation around ‘nepo babies,’ not to make light of it or jokingly confirm the label,” the 29-year-old explained on Bloomberg Originals’ The Circuit With Emily Chang. “It was a way of saying, ‘I hear what everyone is saying, and this is how I’m choosing to address it.’

The model confidently walked the runway in a revealing outfit and openly acknowledged her privileged background, saying, “I’m aware people see me as a ‘nepo baby,’ and I’m comfortable owning that label.”

But of course someone had to take issue with the, er, rhode she was walking down. 

She explained that the internet is a no-win situation. “It’s like you can’t please anyone,” she said. “People will criticize you for having connections, and then criticize you more if you admit those connections exist. It’s a pattern I’ve noticed repeatedly – you can never satisfy everyone online.”

Before she became a successful businesswoman and mother to Jack Blues Bieber with her husband, Justin Bieber, Hailey Bieber was known as a member of the famous Baldwin family. This family is so visually striking that the term ‘Baldwin’ was used in the 1995 film Clueless to describe someone exceptionally attractive, much like Paul Rudd’s character.

The Baldwin family boasts several well-known actors. Alec, Billy, Daniel, and Stephen Baldwin all gained popularity and built fan bases during the 1990s.

Fast-forward a few decades and the brothers are now rollin’ with a whole new crew of homies. 

The Baldwin family is expanding quickly! From Daniel Baldwin’s youngest children, 2-year-old William and 3-year-old Ilaria, to Alec Baldwin’s seven children with his wife Hilaria, the family now includes a large and growing number of cousins.

Alec Baldwin, the Emmy-winning actor, was born on April 3, 1958, to Alexander Rae Baldwin Jr. and Carol Newcomb. He’s one of six children and the oldest of the brothers.

The Baldwin brothers were born over a six-year span, starting with Daniel on October 5, 1960. William, known as Billy, followed on February 21, 1963, and Stephen, the youngest, was born on May 12, 1966.

Elizabeth “Beth” Baldwin Keuchler, the oldest of six children, was born in 1955. She is now a mother to six children and is married to Charles Keuchler, who works as a landscape architect.

Fifth of six is Jane Baldwin Sasso, who was born in 1965. She is married to Randy Sasso and is said to have two children.

Carol’s father died in 1983 at age 55, but she lived a long and full life, surviving a breast cancer diagnosis in 1991 and passing away on May 26, 2022, at the age of 92. She leaves behind a legacy of 25 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and a cancer research foundation named in her honor.

Alec shared that his mother instilled in him the idea that people can always reinvent themselves. He fondly remembered her last 25 years, describing her as a dedicated and passionate advocate who tirelessly fought for what she believed in.

Alec was married to Oscar winner Kim Basinger from 1993 until 2002.

Their daughter Ireland Baldwin was born Oct. 23. 1995.

Alec married Hilaria Baldwin (née Thomas) on June 30, 2012.

They are now parents to seven children: daughters Carmen Gabriela (born August 23, 2013), María Lucía Victoria (born February 25, 2021), and Ilaria Catalina Irena (born September 22, 2022), and sons Rafael Thomas (born June 17, 2015), Leonardo Ángel Charles (born September 12, 2016), Romeo Alejandro David (born May 17, 2018), and Eduardo “Edu” Pao Lucas (born September 8, 2020).

Ireland and musican RAC (André Allen Anjos) welcomed daughter Holland in May 2023.

Daniel shares daughter Kahlea, born in 1984, with first wife Cheryl. They divorced in 1989.

The actor has a daughter named Alexandra with his second wife, Elizabeth. They were married from 1990 to 1996.

Daniel and Isabella Hoffman, who both starred in Homicide: Life on the Street, were together from 1996 to 2005 and have a son named Atticus Baldwin.

Daniel was married to model Joanne Smith from 2007 to 2012.

They share daughters Avis, born Jan. 17, 2008, and Finley, who arrived Aug. 7, 2009. 

Daniel married D’Asia Bellamy on New Year’s Eve in 2022, and they had a son, William “Bat” Baldwin, on June 1, 2023.

Billy has been married to singer Chynna Phillips, who comes from a large and complex family, since September 9, 1995.

Jameson was born on February 27, 2000, followed by her brother Vance in 2001, and their sister Brooke in 2004, completing their family.

Billy shared on October 3, 2019, that Vance had been diagnosed with cancer a year earlier and had completed 28 chemotherapy treatments.

His dad described his son as remarkably resilient, saying he remained positive and maintained a normal routine throughout everything. He praised him as being incredibly smart, hilarious, and strong, with a truly kind heart.

Chynna commented, “Our baby. Our hero.”

On the anniversary of his diagnosis, Vance shared on social media, according to USA Today, that he had been cancer-free for several months.

A reminder the genes are strong among the Baldwins.

On October 3, 2020, Billy shared a post marking two years since his son’s cancer diagnosis. He described his son as “one of the coolest, toughest kids you’ll ever know,” highlighting how much progress he’d made.

Baby of the Baldwin family Stephen has been married to Kennya Deodato since June 10, 1990.

They’re parents to daughters Alaia, born Jan. 23, 1993, and daughter Hailey, born Nov. 22, 1996.

Alaia married Andrew Aronow, the founder of Pocket Ace Productions, in 2017. They had a daughter, Iris Elle Aronow, on August 17, 2020.

A new aunt excitedly announced the arrival of her niece on Instagram, sharing that she’s ‘absolutely perfect’ and expressing her immense love.

Hailey and Justin Bieber had been friends for ten years before falling in love quickly and getting married in a simple ceremony at a New York courthouse on September 13, 2018.

The couple followed up with a larger, more elaborate wedding ceremony in South Carolina on September 30, 2019. The bride’s father, Stephen, had the honor of walking her down the aisle, and her sister, Alaia, and cousin, Ireland, were both bridesmaids.

Hailey didn’t change her last name to Justin’s immediately after their wedding, and she thought about it carefully before making the decision.

It was definitely an adjustment,” she admitted to Bustle in 2019. “It’s really odd and takes time to get used to.

She shared that being a Baldwin makes her very proud, explaining, “I come from a wonderful family with a long history in this business.”

The couple revealed in May 2024 that Hailey was pregnant with their first child together.

On Aug. 23, 2024, Justin revealed that son Jack Blues Bieber had arrived.

The singer announced their baby’s arrival with a sweet photo: the newborn’s tiny foot next to the mother’s perfectly polished fingernail, accompanied by the caption “WELCOME HOME.”

Justin Bieber’s mother, Pattie Mallette, shared a congratulatory message on X (formerly Twitter) to Justin and Hailey, expressing her eternal love for them.

Stephen shared the message and added, “Amen. Congratulations, and may God continue to bless our family.”
