A new open-world game coming to Xbox next month is already a hit on Steam, ranking as the third best-selling title between April 7th and 14th. Remarkably, this achievement is based solely on pre-orders, meaning people are buying the game before it’s even released. It currently trails only Crimson Desert and Slay the Spire 2 – two of the biggest games of 2026 so far. This suggests the Xbox game is likely to be very successful, which isn’t unexpected given how well its previous games have performed.
The newest Forza Horizon game, Forza Horizon 6, comes out on May 19th from Xbox Game Studios and Playground Games, and fans on Steam are already pre-ordering it in large numbers. While this is great news, it’s not unexpected – Forza Horizon is Xbox’s most popular and arguably best franchise right now. Forza Horizon 5 already sold over 20 million copies, even though many players accessed it for free through Xbox Game Pass, where it remains available. The game was also a critical hit, earning a score of 92 on Metacritic.
New, Unique Setting
As the release of Forza Horizon 6 approaches, it’s likely to quickly climb the Steam charts. While Crimson Desert is expected to be one of the year’s biggest sellers and will be a strong competitor, Forza Horizon 6 should easily surpass Slay the Spire 2 in sales. This is largely due to the series’ existing popularity – racing games are well-loved, and Forza Horizon is the leading franchise in the genre. However, the game’s new location is also a major draw.
Forza Horizon 6 is heading to Japan, which is a first for the series and a really distinctive location compared to past games. While it’s hard to say exactly how much this will boost sales, it’s likely to have at least some positive effect.
While the new Forza Horizon 6 isn’t part of the Xbox Game Pass subscription and costs a full $70 to purchase, that doesn’t seem to be impacting its popularity. Forza Horizon 5 performed well despite similar factors, and Forza Horizon 6 is expected to do the same.
