Okay, so Valve finally confirmed it – they’re making a new VR headset called the Steam Frame! I’ve been hearing whispers about it for ages, and it’s totally real. The best part? It’s wireless! They’re sending out a special adapter that handles all the connection stuff, so no more tripping over cables. Plus, they’re using some fancy tech called ‘foveated streaming’ which basically means the visuals are gonna be way better – like, ten times better, apparently. It’s not out until early 2026, but I’m already hyped to play my whole Steam library in VR without being tethered to my PC!
This VR headset features two high-resolution LCD screens (2160×2160 pixels) with fast refresh rates of 72 to 144 Hz. It also includes built-in stereo speakers and four cameras with infrared LEDs for precise tracking. Powering the headset is a Snapdragon 8 Series processor, 16 GB of RAM, and storage options ranging from 256 GB to 1 TB, with the ability to expand storage using a microSD card. It’s powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery with 21.6 Wh capacity and offers both USB-C and USB-C 2.0 ports.
The headset comes with two controllers that each last around 40 hours on a single charge – and you can use them with games that aren’t in VR, too. It runs SteamOS, giving you access to features like cloud saves and the ability to quickly pause and resume your game. Plus, it works with your existing Steam Controller and lets you stream games from your Steam Deck.
But the really impressive part of this is the Steam Machine – a portable PC that’s significantly more powerful than the Steam Deck. It boasts a custom AMD processor and graphics card, along with 16GB of fast RAM. This combination allows it to play games at a high resolution of 4K with smooth 60 frames per second, even enhancing visuals with FSR technology.
When it launches, you’ll be able to choose between 512 GB and 2 TB of storage on a fast NVMe SSD. There’s also a microSD card slot for adding even more storage. Plus, because it uses SteamOS, it functions like a regular PC too.
