It’s a complicated time for PlayStation fans.
This week, Sony revealed two major new games, Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble and Horizon Steel Frontiers, but surprisingly, they won’t be released on the PS5.
It’s easy to get caught up in the strong reactions online, but it’s important to remember PlayStation has been interested in mobile gaming for a long time. Their goal with these new projects is simply to grow the PlayStation brand and reach more players.
Sony previously started releasing popular PlayStation games like Ghost of Tsushima and The Last of Us: Part 2 on PC. However, according to a new report from Windows Central’s Jez Corden, Sony might be reconsidering this approach and releasing fewer games on PC in the future.

The commentator initially mentioned hearing rumors from a reliable source, as noted on Reddit after a podcast interview. However, he later stated on X (formerly Twitter) that those rumors are quite uncertain. It’s up to you to decide what that means.
During a conversation about Sony, James Corden said a source told him that PlayStation likely won’t be releasing as many games on computers in the future.
Following discoveries made within the PS5’s system code last week, players found an icon suggesting “Cross-Buy” functionality, hinting at a possible launcher that would allow PlayStation games to be played on PC.
Corden has explained that this information isn’t a genuine leak or a serious issue, and even if it were true, it would likely only affect single-player games.
Sony has signaled a shift in strategy by removing goals related to making money from games on platforms other than PlayStation. This suggests they’re no longer focused on expanding game sales beyond their consoles.
But we already know off-console sales are effectively a footnote for PlayStation’s business.
The latest quarterly report shows that sales of games across multiple platforms made up about 2% of the division’s total revenue. This figure includes more than a month of sales for Helldivers 2 on Xbox.
Personally, we don’t think there’s much to this story really.
We expect Sony will keep doing what it’s been doing: releasing a few games on different platforms and focusing on games that offer ongoing, online experiences where it makes business sense.
