Walton Goggins & Quentin Tarantino’s Controversial $449M Western Crime Movie Returns As No. 1 Streaming Hit 14 Years Later

A film directed by Quentin Tarantino and featuring Walton Goggins is gaining popularity again, almost fifteen years after its initial release. Tarantino is famous for his action-packed and often violent movies, and one of his older films is now reaching a new audience.

Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained, originally released in December 2012, is currently the most popular movie on Hulu, which is now part of Disney+. The R-rated Western has reached the #1 spot, followed by Tarot at #2, The Mummy at #3, Tin Soldier at #4, and Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere rounding out the top five at #5.

As a big fan of Westerns, I always remember the cast of Django Unchained so vividly. Jamie Foxx was incredible as Django Freeman, and Christoph Waltz absolutely stole scenes as Dr. King Schultz. Then you had Leonardo DiCaprio playing one of the most memorable villains I’ve seen – Calvin J. Candie. Kerry Washington was fantastic as Broomhilda, and it was great to see Samuel L. Jackson and Michael Goggins rounding out the cast as Stephen and Billy Crash. What a group!

With worldwide box office earnings of $449 million, Django Unchained cost around $100 million to produce. The film, starring Jamie Foxx, received five Academy Award nominations, including for Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay. It ultimately won three Oscars: Christoph Waltz for Best Supporting Actor, as well as awards for Best Cinematography and Best Sound Editing.

In a review for ScreenRant, Ben Kendrick described Django Unchained as another strong film from Quentin Tarantino, even though it has some overly long scenes. He noted that while the 2012 movie is enjoyable, it’s one of Tarantino’s least consistent films. The story sometimes spends too much time on unimportant scenes, and important moments don’t always have the impact they should.

Currently, 87% of critics on Rotten Tomatoes recommend the film, and 92% of audiences like it, according to the Popcornmeter. You can watch Django Unchained now on Hulu, through Disney+, in the United States.
