As a huge Dungeons & Dragons fan, I’m so excited about the new game, Warlock! It’s a single-player action-adventure game where you play in third-person, and it’s set in a really cool, dark fantasy open world inspired by the D&D universe. It’s currently being developed for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox, and I can’t wait to play it!
Created by Invoke Studios in Montreal, the game puts you in the role of Kaatri, a seasoned warrior who makes a risky deal to use powerful magic against a growing darkness. The character is played through motion capture by Tricia Helfer, the actress known from Battlestar Galactica.
Magic is central to how Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons is built. Every spell serves a dual purpose – helping you explore the world and fight enemies. This allows you to discover hidden areas in a stunning but eerie environment, and combine spells with close-combat attacks for battles that are both strategic and impactful.
According to Invoke general manager Dominic Guay, their collaboration with Wizards of the Coast and the popular Dungeons & Dragons franchise has enabled them to create a large-scale, open-world game. “Partnering with Wizards of the Coast on such a well-known brand like D&D has given our team the creative freedom and backing to develop a truly ambitious open-world game for players,” Guay stated. “We’re thrilled to announce Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons and can’t wait to reveal more about the gameplay soon.”
Wizards of the Coast president John Hight explained that warlock magic is both powerful and risky. He described the game’s world as full of ‘dangerous wonder,’ meaning that as the character Kaatri gains more power, it always comes with a price.
More information, including a first look at gameplay, is scheduled to be released in the summer of 2026. The game, Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons, is expected to be fully available in 2027.
