Square Enix is a legendary name in gaming, famous for creating some of the most beloved role-playing games ever made. For many years, they’ve been delivering huge, immersive RPGs that combine captivating stories with innovative gameplay. I’ve always enjoyed games from this studio, like classics such as Final Fantasy VI and more recent titles like Octopath Traveler II. No matter the game – whether it’s a major installment or a side story – Square Enix consistently knows how to create engaging and high-quality experiences.
The excitement around new Square Enix games, like the long-awaited Kingdom Hearts 4, is always high. When the game was first announced, fans were thrilled – it’s one of Square Enix’s most popular series, right up there with Final Fantasy. But it’s been a long time since the announcement, and we still don’t know much about the game itself. I keep hoping for even a small update – a peek at gameplay or a hint about the story – and find myself constantly checking for news. Unfortunately, we’re still waiting, which is both exciting and a little worrying.
It’s Been Four Years Since Kingdom Hearts 4 Was Announced

The announcement of Kingdom Hearts 4 came with a breathtaking trailer during the series’ 20th anniversary celebration, instantly exciting fans. After Kingdom Hearts 3, many believed the story had reached its conclusion, so the news of a continuation was a welcome surprise, particularly given the complicated plot of the third game. This sparked a lot of discussion among fans about where the new game would take place, what kind of atmosphere it would have, and how the story would progress.
Honestly, the first look at this game really grabbed me. It just felt different – the world seemed way more realistic, and the whole style hinted that Square Enix might be trying something new after sticking with the same formula for so long. Even though the gameplay is still being worked on, that fight against the huge Heartless reminded me a lot of the Eikon battles in Final Fantasy XVI, and I’m totally here for more of those epic, cinematic fights against massive creatures!
Since the initial announcement, details about the game have been scarce. We haven’t seen much gameplay, there’s no confirmed release date, and the developers haven’t shared many updates. This lack of information has actually created a lot of buzz, as people get more excited the longer they wait. However, it’s also possible that Square Enix is encountering problems with the game and doesn’t have much to show yet.
The Shadow of Kingdom Hearts III

Any discussion about Kingdom Hearts 4 naturally leads back to Kingdom Hearts III. That game had been eagerly awaited and wrapped up a long-running storyline. I especially remember the hype surrounding its release, as I’d been a fan since the very first games. It felt like a huge event for longtime players. However, despite its success, Kingdom Hearts III wasn’t without its problems.
Kingdom Hearts III offered excellent gameplay and looked fantastic, but its story received a more divided response. While previous games were praised for their narratives, many players found this installment’s pacing and resolution underwhelming. What once made the series captivating—its complexity—became confusing for some, and certain plot points didn’t quite add up, leaving me, and others, feeling unsatisfied with how the story unfolded despite enjoying some parts.
Given everything that happened with past games, the lack of news about Kingdom Hearts 4 is starting to feel worrying. A new sequel could be a chance to fix previous storytelling problems and improve the overall narrative. But without any updates, it’s difficult to tell if the developers are addressing those issues. I’m hoping Square Enix is carefully crafting the game, but the silence is making fans uncertain. If the story turns out to be as disappointing as Kingdom Hearts III, it’s hard to imagine the series continuing much further.
Square Enix’s Silence on Kingdom Hearts Is a Double-Edged Sword

Even though Kingdom Hearts III received mixed reactions, the Kingdom Hearts series is still a major success for Square Enix. Kingdom Hearts 4 continues to excite fans and spark conversation, even without many new details. They closely examine the trailer, searching for hidden clues. The series has a unique ability to stay popular, creating a lot of buzz and anticipation despite the limited information available.
While keeping things quiet can build initial hype, players eventually need to see what the game is actually like. They want to know about gameplay, the story, and how this new version improves on past games, particularly the narrative. Without updates, that excitement can turn into doubt. The secrecy surrounding the game is a double-edged sword – it’s both intriguing and irritating.
Square Enix is at a key turning point. They have a chance to regain fans’ trust and create a Kingdom Hearts 4 game that both loyal players and newcomers will love. The game definitely has potential, but the company needs to share more information to ease concerns. For now, all we can do is be patient. I’m still optimistic about the future of the series and hope Kingdom Hearts 4 will ultimately live up to expectations when it’s finally revealed.
