During today’s 10th anniversary livestream, Kojima Productions quickly mentioned that A24 is still moving forward with its live-action version of Death Stranding.
Just to clear up any confusion: the *Death Stranding Mosquito* anime movie we mentioned before is separate from the other new *Death Stranding* film. That’s right – the franchise is actually getting two movies!
The upcoming live-action movie, directed by Michael Sarnoski (known for *A Quiet Place: Day One*), shares the same goal as the animated project: to expand the universe and characters of *Death Stranding* with a brand new story.
Sarnoski explained:
For this project, our goal is to truly capture the essence and core themes of the game, while telling a completely new story and introducing fresh characters. We want to embrace the game’s vast world and detailed locations, and then deliver a compelling experience that feels authentic both on a large scale and in its smaller, more personal moments.
As we’ve already discussed, Hideo Kojima doesn’t have time to direct the movie himself, though he’s very interested in seeing it made. He is, however, heavily involved in the project as a creative force.
So, I’m still in the dark about who’s going to be in this, what the story’s about, or when they even start filming. It seems like this project is way behind the anime – they actually dropped a trailer for that today, which is awesome! This one’s probably still in the really early stages.
