Wednesday Season 2 Brings Back a Dead Season 1 Character (Netflix Just Spoiled It)

In an unexpected move, Netflix has hinted at a returning character in ‘Wednesday’ Season 2, Part 2 through an unconventional method. The first segment of ‘Wednesday’ Season 2 has been a blockbuster for the streaming platform, breaking records by being the number one show in a whopping 91 countries. The initial four episodes have been filled with unexpected turns and have left several puzzles for Wednesday Addams to unravel in Part 2. However, it’s clear that Nevermore Academy will continue to surprise us as we delve deeper into the second half of the season, revealing more intriguing secrets.

The main cast of the series assembled at a Netflix function in Sydney during the “Global Doom Tour” on Wednesday. Notable attendees included Jenna Ortega, Emma Myers, and Gwendoline Christie, who is set to reappear as Principal Weems when Season 2, Part 2 of Wednesday premieres on Netflix. In a clip shared on the Netflix Australia & New Zealand Instagram page, Christie makes an appearance on stage, with her voiceover as Weems saying: “You thought I’d slip away that easily from Nevermore? I was never gone… you simply stopped looking.”

In an unexpected turn of events, revealing something significant about the storyline, Weems, a pivotal character from the first season of Wednesday, was believed to have been killed by Marilyn Thornhill. She had allegedly stabbed him with a needle containing poisonous nightshade. However, with Steve Buscemi joining Season 2 as Barry Dort, the new principal at Nevermore Academy, it appeared that Weems’ departure might be permanent. But perhaps not all is as it seems…

Despite all odds, some speculations persisted that she might have lived on. Given her shapeshifting abilities, it was theorized that she had morphed into someone else. One theory that garnered significant attention was that she had transformed into Lurch from the Addams Family, as the camera focused on him at the end of Season 1. Although Lurch underwent a recast in Wednesday’s Season 2 (with Joonas Suotamo replacing George Burcea), there were no other hints suggesting he was Weems. Other theories put forth included Dort as Weems and Isadora Capri, the new music teacher played by Billie Piper, as Weems’ disguise.

While there’s limited proof for any of these theories, the phrase “you stopped looking” subtly hints that we might have overlooked some hidden clues all along, making them seem more likely. On the other hand, it’s possible that Larissa could reappear as a ghost. Given that the series has previously introduced supernatural entities from the afterlife through Goody Addams, it wouldn’t be too far-fetched to imagine this as the method of Larissa’s return.

In the second half of “Wednesday” Season 2, it’s possible that Wednesday’s psychic skills are growing stronger, potentially enabling her to perceive more ghosts. This alignment also suggests that Nevermore might not have released Weems yet – perhaps his spirit is still bound there until a resolution occurs, which could free him to depart.

One possibility that appears less likely regarding Weems’ comeback is her reappearance through a flashback. Although such a scenario could provide additional insights into Weems and Morticia’s past, Christie’s character’s statement, “I was never really gone,” suggests she plays a role in the current storyline, leaving open the question of whether she’s currently deceased or still alive.

On September 3rd, 2025, you can start streaming the first part of Wednesday Season 2 on Netflix.
