What Actually Incited George Clooney’s Prank War With Brad Pitt? From A Pot Leaf Sticker To Those Famous Fake Letters

It’s always entertaining to watch celebrities play pranks on each other, and George Clooney and Brad Pitt are famous for their long-running rivalry. Clooney is especially known for sending fake letters pretending to be other celebrities, but both stars of Ocean’s Eleven have pulled some pretty elaborate pranks on each other. So how did this all begin? Let’s take a look at the first prank that sparked this playful feud and some of the other hilarious things they’ve done over the years.

George Clooney’s First Prank On Brad Pitt Involved A Pot Leaf Bumper Sticker

George Clooney appeared on a segment of The Graham Norton Show ahead of the release of his upcoming Netflix movie Jay Kelly, which hit the 2025 movie calendar on November 14 for a short theatrical run. When asked about the prank war between the Wolfs stars, Clooney admitted that they’ve done “terrible things” to each other, and he thinks it all started when they were filming Ocean’s Eleven. He recalled:

I have to admit, I get a real kick out of those license plate frames or bumper stickers. It’s just… you rarely look at the back of your own car, right? So, I love secretly putting a silly or slightly embarrassing bumper sticker on someone’s car – it’s a harmless prank and they get to drive around with it, which always makes me laugh.

He’s right to point out that car interiors are easily targeted, and this should be a heads-up for anyone working with George Clooney in the future. But what exactly did he do to Brad Pitt’s car? He went on to explain:

I saw a sticker shaped like a plant that said something offensive about the police. I stuck it on a friend’s car, thinking he was guaranteed to get stopped by the police, and sure enough, he did!

It’s easy to picture how awkward that conversation between Brad Pitt and the police officer must have been. But that’s not the only time people have playfully teased Pitt about the situation.

George Clooney Sent Meryl Streep A Gift ‘From Brad Pitt’ Ahead of The Iron Lady

Apparently, Jimmy Kimmel is responsible for a playful prank involving George Clooney and Brad Pitt. Kimmel admitted to giving Clooney stationery with Brad Pitt‘s name on it, leading Clooney to send out fake letters as if they were from Pitt. Meryl Streep was among those who received these letters, even before she won her Academy Award for The Iron Lady. Clooney shared the story with Graham Norton, explaining how it all happened.

I mailed Meryl Streep a collection of CDs from Brad, along with a note. The CDs were from a dialect coach he’d used on the movie Troy, and included recordings of all sorts of accents – things like Gaelic and Yiddish. Brad’s note said he heard she was preparing for The Iron Lady and thought the CDs might be helpful. Meryl was understandably a little puzzled when she received it.

If you’re going to play pranks on people, you should expect them to get you back, and Brad Pitt experienced this firsthand when the cast of Ocean’s Twelve filmed in Italy.

According to George Clooney, his co-star playfully sent a memo to the film crew and locals around his Lake Como home – where he’s lived for many years – instructing them not to make eye contact with him and to only refer to him as “Mr. Clooney” or “Mr. Ocean.” Matt Damon said Clooney was incredibly angry when he found out about the prank.

Expect More Pranks Between These Two In The Future

George Clooney is known for elaborate pranks that he doesn’t reveal for a year or two, he explained. He’s actually planning one right now, and he hinted that we’ll find out about it when it’s finally exposed.

I’m currently involved in something I can’t discuss, but expect to hear news about my arrest within a year. I’m serious – I believe I’ve done something illegal.

George Clooney is definitely a master of suspense! While we’re all curious about his playful claim of being arrested, you can currently see him in the movie Jay Kelly in theaters. Or, if you prefer, you can stream it on Netflix starting Friday, December 5th.
