Great news for fans! The Dragon Ball Super manga is officially returning. Although a release date hasn’t been announced yet, artist Toyotarou recently confirmed that work on it has resumed. This is exciting news, as the manga hasn’t been updated since Chapter 104 was released in February 2025 – over a year ago!
With the return of the Dragon Ball Super manga, a new chapter begins following the passing of Akira Toriyama. Toyotarou is now leading the series, which makes its future direction uncertain – both thrilling and a little scary for fans. However, there are existing storylines and character developments that fans anticipate Toyotarou will continue in the highly anticipated Dragon Ball Super Chapter 105 and beyond.
Gotenks’ Return in the Manga Is Inevitable At This Point
In Toyotarou’s take on the Super Hero Saga, Goten and Trunks were the central characters. Even with Gohan and Piccolo gaining new powers, the story largely revolved around Goten and Trunks leading up to the fight with Cell Max. In fact, Toyotarou’s original one-shot manga was entirely about their journey to become heroes.
It would be very surprising if Toyotarou brought Goten and Trunks back into the story without a clear purpose. Most fans would expect their increased presence to lead to a stronger version of their fused form, Gotenks. While both characters are likable individually, they’re always more powerful when they combine forces, and Gotenks is a testament to that. Sadly, they haven’t been able to successfully fuse in the manga since the fight with Beerus, so it’s high time they finally master the Fusion Dance after all their training and hero work.
Broly Will Reach New Heights of Power in His First Team-Up With The Z Fighters
Broly has been around in the Dragon Ball universe for a while, but he’s a recent member of the Z Fighters in Dragon Ball Super. Until recently in the manga, he couldn’t control his incredible power, which explains why he didn’t participate in battles against villains like Moro and Granolah alongside Goku and Vegeta.
Now that Broly has mastered his powerful, rage-fueled Super Saiyan form, he’s ready for his first real battle as a hero. It will be interesting to see how he controls his anger while using his incredible strength. Toyotarou will need to create a truly formidable villain to give Broly a challenge.
The Black Frieza Saga Is Finally Coming

For the past four years, the Dragon Ball Super manga has centered around the Super Hero Saga (which actually concluded in 2022). Now, the story is moving forward to a new arc, and that means finally addressing the threat of Black Frieza. While Gohan and Piccolo were battling Cell Max, Goku and Vegeta were training with Beerus, hoping to become powerful enough to eventually get revenge on Black Frieza.
As a huge Dragon Ball fan, I’m really excited to see what they do with Black Frieza in the next arc! Even back in the Golden Frieza Saga, he was such a complex character. And honestly, he’s sided with the Z Fighters twice now – once in the Tournament of Power and again against Broly, even letting the Saiyans live during the Granolah Saga. At this point, it would almost be shocking if he was a purely evil villain! I fully expect him to end up working with them again, and honestly, I think his return was always going to happen.
Toyotarou’s Love For Dragon Ball GT Could Make Super Saiyan 5 a Reality
It’s hard to predict what’s coming in the next chapters of Dragon Ball Super, but one thing is certain: this will be the first complete story arc drawn by Toyotarou without direct input from Akira Toriyama. While Toyotarou was the lead writer for both the Moro and Granolah arcs, Toriyama always provided editorial oversight. Now, Toyotarou will have complete creative freedom to take the story in any direction he chooses.
Considering Toyotarou’s fondness for Dragon Ball GT, it’s likely to influence the current story. His first Dragon Ball manga was the popular fan work, Dragon Ball AF, which heavily borrowed from GT – we can even see echoes of GT‘s Baby Saga in the Granolah arc. Therefore, it wouldn’t be surprising if we see Super Saiyan 4, or even Super Saiyan 5, show up in the next part of the series.
A Dragon Ball DAIMA Tie-In Wouldn’t Be Surprising Considering Toyotarou’s Opinion on Canon
For a long time, fans weren’t sure if Super Saiyan 4 was truly part of the official Dragon Ball story. However, that changed recently when Akira Toriyama confirmed its place in the canon with Dragon Ball DAIMA. It’s now officially recognized as part of Toriyama’s version of the Dragon Ball universe, although it’s still unclear how this fits with Dragon Ball Super. So far, no characters in DBS – either in the anime or manga – have even mentioned Super Saiyan 4, so the manga author, Toyotarou, will likely need to address this in future storylines.
Although some fans treat DAIMA as a completely different story from Super, Toyotarou has confirmed they are connected. It seems unlikely he would disregard Toriyama’s wishes regarding the canonicity of Super Saiyan 4. Toyotarou has already proven he’s willing to make previously non-canon anime characters – like Olibu and Pikkon, who appeared in Dragon Ball Super Chapter 104 – officially part of the story, suggesting anything is possible for the series now.
Goku and Vegeta Are Long Overdue For Another Fusion
Fans have been waiting a long time to see Goku and Vegeta fuse in the Dragon Ball Super manga. Their last fusion, as Gotenks, happened during the Broly Saga, but the manga didn’t really explore that storyline. Now, a fusion might be essential to defeat Black Frieza.
The upcoming fusion of Goku and Vegeta in DBS is predicted to be the strongest fusion the series has ever shown. Considering how quickly the Potara fusion’s power faded even with Super Saiyan Blue, they might need a completely new fusion technique – possibly something like the Fuse Bugs from DAIMA – to manage their latest evolutions. What’s particularly exciting is the potential for combining Ultra Instinct and Ultra Ego, which could result in an entirely new transformation. Whether it’s Gotenks or Vegito, a fusion of Ultra Instinct Goku and Vegeta promises to be an incredibly powerful, god-like being unlike anything fans have witnessed before.
