Following the popularity of the original movie in 2014, fans have been anticipating a sequel. But what’s the status of Edge of Tomorrow 2 after twelve years?
How well did it do?
The film earned $381 million despite a $176 million budget, performing particularly well with home entertainment sales. This success led to discussions about a sequel, and on the film’s tenth anniversary, director Doug Liman revealed he was developing a script, with Warner Bros. showing strong interest.
Edge of Tomorrow 2 development….
Originally, filming for the Cruise-Lima movie ‘Deeper’ was scheduled to start first, but it was later put on hold during pre-production. After that, ‘Edge of Tomorrow 2’ was planned to begin filming in Autumn 2026, but that date has also been cancelled.
Tom’s time….
Tom Cruise is incredibly busy. His potential Oscar contender, ‘Digger,’ is scheduled for release this fall, and promotion will likely increase as awards season approaches. After that, he’s set to work on a Space X production, followed by either a remake of Clint Eastwood’s ‘The Gauntlet’ – a fun, over-the-top film – or ‘Broadsword,’ a war movie directed by his frequent collaborator, Christopher McQuarrie. Plus, a third ‘Top Gun’ film has been confirmed. This means a sequel, if it happens, is probably at least two or three years away.
…..And that’s what’s happened to the Edge of Tomorrow 2
