Veronia Fusaro is representing Switzerland this year and hopes to win over Europe and viewers with her song.
Switzerland was a founding participant in the very first Eurovision Song Contest in 1956, and remarkably, they won that inaugural competition. Since then, they’ve competed 64 times, with their most recent victory coming in 2024, adding to their initial win.

The Eurovision Song Contest has received a lot of criticism for letting Israel compete this year, given the current war happening in Gaza.
As a big fan of the contest, I’m really disappointed to hear that several countries are choosing not to participate this year. It all stems from the European Broadcasting Union’s decision regarding Israel’s continued involvement, and it’s led to this boycott. It’s a shame, honestly, because it’s going to change the whole vibe of the show.
In December 2025, the EBU held a meeting where members voted to create rules preventing governments or outside groups from unfairly pushing certain songs to sway voting results. However, they did not vote on whether Israel would be allowed to participate.
The European Broadcasting Union announced that most of its members decided another vote on whether to participate wasn’t necessary. They confirmed that the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest will go ahead as scheduled, with extra safety measures added.
After that, Ireland, Spain, the Netherlands, Slovenia, and Iceland announced they would not be competing in Eurovision this year.
Ireland’s public broadcaster, RTÉ, has decided not to participate in this year’s contest due to the ongoing loss of life and humanitarian crisis in Gaza. They believe it would be inappropriate to participate while civilians continue to be at risk.
As a big fan, I saw the news about the decision and the BBC, who show the contest here in the UK, have come out saying they fully back the EBU. They put out a statement explaining it’s all about following the rules and making sure everyone feels welcome.
The Eurovision Song Contest 2026 final will take place on Saturday 16 May 2026.
