It’s now confirmed that the PlayStation 5 version of Gears of War: E-Day was cancelled right before this weekend’s Xbox Showcase.
Fans on ResetEra noticed a video briefly posted on a now-removed Xbox Podcast that accidentally included a PlayStation 5 logo at the end of a trailer for a third-person shooter game.
It wasn’t a complete shock – a reporter had previously mentioned a nearly finished version of the game existed – but this really highlights how quickly and unexpectedly Microsoft is responding to the situation.
After the show, Xbox head Matt Booty didn’t clearly outline their plans for exclusive games. Earlier, when asked directly about the issue, Chief Strategy Officer Matthew Ball declined to answer.
It’s now confirmed that The Coalition submitted a trailer for Gears of War: E-Day that included a PlayStation 5 logo. The game also received a rating for release on PS5 from PEGI, and retailers had listings for a physical copy until very recently.
You really couldn’t make any of this up, could you?
