The latest episode of Daredevil: Born Again, titled “The Hateful Darkness,” revealed a surprising turn of events. Wilson Fisk, also known as the Kingpin, predicted a lot of media attention during Karen Page’s trial, but he didn’t seem to expect Matt Murdock to publicly reveal himself as Daredevil. By exposing Matt as a hero to the city, the Kingpin unintentionally created a powerful opponent, and now Matt is in a strong position to challenge the Kingpin’s power during the very public trial.
Karen had a quick conversation with Fisk and realized he was frightened. Losing Vanessa has made him feel like he’s losing control of the city, causing him to become more aggressive. This led to a plot to kill the governor, but Bullseye intervened and stopped it – Daredevil essentially used a similar tactic to catch the attacker. While both heroes and villains were busy trying to take down Fisk, they didn’t realize someone had died.
Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Just Killed the Next Kingpin

Daniel Blake, a rising star on Mayor Fisk’s team, gained the Kingpin’s confidence through his unwavering loyalty. The storyline of Born Again strongly suggested Fisk was grooming Daniel to eventually take over his criminal empire. Even Fisk’s enforcer, Buck, pointed this out, referring to Daniel as the “unofficial heir.” Recent episodes visually reinforced this idea, using similar camera angles and positioning for both Daniel and Fisk to highlight their connection. Since Wilson Fisk in the MCU doesn’t have a family or anyone to pass his power to, Daniel represented the closest thing to an heir he had.
Buck slowly pulled Daniel into the dangerous life of the Kingpin. He did this by compromising Daniel’s values – a key moment being when Daniel helped Buck hide a body in the Catskills. Simultaneously, Buck ensured Daniel understood the risks, meticulously learning about Daniel’s personal life and those he cared about. This was a calculated move, allowing Buck to threaten everything Daniel held dear if he ever disobeyed. The seventh episode of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 marked a turning point, potentially sealing Daniel’s fate.
Daniel discovered BB had been working against the Kingpin, and the Kingpin had ordered her death. Daniel’s job was to lead BB to Buck, who would carry out the hit. However, Daniel couldn’t bring himself to do it. Instead, he warned BB to flee and disappear. He then turned himself in to Buck, accepting the consequences. Daniel finally understood that, like everyone else connected to Wilson Fisk, both he and Buck were ultimately doomed because of the Kingpin’s actions.
Daredevil: Born Again Just Rejected the Kingpin’s Legacy

Wow, that ending really surprised me, but it actually made a lot of sense! It felt true to everything I love about Daredevil, both in the comics and the show. Matt always believes there’s good in people, which is why he refuses to kill, and this played out perfectly with Daniel. Even though he was getting pulled down a bad path, his core goodness ultimately won out, and he died trying to do the right thing. It’s like he represented New York City itself turning against Fisk – think about it, he was Fisk’s most loyal guy, but even he had a limit to how far he’d bend his own morals.
What really struck me was how Daniel represented everything Wilson Fisk wanted – a lasting impact. Fisk isn’t just about power now; he desperately wants to reshape the city in his own vision and leave something behind. He saw Daniel as someone who could carry on his work, especially after losing any hope of having a family. But with Daniel refusing to follow in his footsteps, it feels like Fisk’s time is limited. It’s a chilling realization that when he’s finally defeated, there won’t be anyone to continue his work, no one to remember him by. He’ll just become a footnote in New York City’s story, and honestly, it’s a little sad to think about.
Daniel was spot-on when he said he’d suffer the same fate as Buck. This is a recurring theme in both the Daredevil series and Born Again – anyone who gets too involved with the Kingpin ends up paying a heavy price. Wesley was the first example, and Born Again has already shown us Vanessa and now Daniel won’t survive. Even if Fisk himself makes it through, those around him won’t be so lucky. Being close to the Kingpin is simply a death sentence.
The real concern isn’t just defeating the Kingpin, but the price New York City will pay. If Daniel symbolizes the city – damaged by Wilson Fisk’s influence – his fate hints at what could happen to the entire city if the Kingpin isn’t stopped soon. This isn’t just a typical fight; it’s a crisis that threatens the very future of New York. Daredevil might see this as a personal battle, but the stakes are incredibly high for everyone.
