The heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are very concerned with their appearances. This focus began with Tony Stark, who initially created a functional Iron Man suit using limited materials in a cave. Once he had access to all his resources, he improved the suit’s design, notably adding a red and gold color scheme. From then on, Tony consistently debuted new and improved versions of his armor. He also extended this dedication to upgrades by providing advanced technology and equipment for his fellow heroes, like Captain America and Black Widow, to help them protect the world.
Thor is one character who doesn’t rely on Tony Stark for gadgets or costumes, as he creates his own using Asgardian magic. He clearly cares about his appearance and often changes his outfits to be more dramatic when needed. However, he’s known for always keeping his long hair, making his decision to go with a shorter style in Avengers: Doomsday quite surprising.
The MCU’s Thor Really Cares About His Hair

Initially, when Thor arrives in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he’s more interested in being famous than ruling Asgard. He spends his time partying and fighting, which causes conflict with his father, Odin. His time on Earth changes his perspective, and he returns to Asgard determined to be a worthy king. In Thor: The Dark World, he adopts a more kingly appearance, reflecting his commitment to fighting the Dark Elves. However, his next major change in appearance isn’t something he chooses for himself.
Okay, so after everything with Hela and learning about her history, Thor ended up on Sakaar, which was basically this planet obsessed with gladiator battles. The Grandmaster there wasn’t a fan of Thor’s long hair, so he had it cut – a real blow to our guy! But Thor didn’t have time to worry about his hair because he had to defeat Hela, save his people, and then deal with Thanos! After all that, he finally got his hair back and kept it that way through Thor: Love and Thunder. Honestly, I was loving the look, so it’s a little weird to hear he’s changing it up again. I’m just not sure what’s prompting it this time.
Avengers: Doomsday Is Going to Throw Thor Off His Game Again

The latest trailer for Doomsday centers on Thor attempting to connect with his deceased father, Odin, seeking the strength to overcome another enemy and return to his daughter, Love. While the trailer is full of intense moments and dialogue, many viewers have noticed Thor’s noticeably shorter hair. It seems unlikely the Grandmaster, currently on Sakaar, gave him a haircut.
Thor is finally understanding the seriousness of the danger and letting go of his immature behavior. Now that he’s a father, and facing a villain who threatens the entire multiverse, he can’t afford to be playful. He needs to fully embrace his role as a warrior and take decisive action.
Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18, 2026.
