An HBO executive predicts the new Harry Potter TV series will be the biggest streaming event of the next ten years.
Why did HBO say about the Harry Potter TV Show?
JB Perrette, the head of streaming for Warner Bros. Discovery, revealed when HBO Max will be available in the UK and Ireland on Monday. He also discussed the upcoming Harry Potter television series, describing the production as massive in scale and one of the company’s most significant projects. Perrette recently toured the set and was impressed by its size and ambition.
Pauley Perrette, in an interview with Variety, described the production as incredibly detailed and ambitious, elevating it beyond typical theatrical experiences. She believes the expanded format of a series allows for a deeper exploration of the story and characters, capturing nuances that a two-hour movie couldn’t. Despite Casey Bloys, the head of HBO Max, preferring she not say it, Perrette confidently stated she thinks this series will be the streaming event of the decade.
The new Harry Potter series is described as a close retelling of J.K. Rowling’s books, with Rowling herself overseeing the project. According to an official statement, each season will introduce the magical stories to a wider audience, but the original, beloved films will still be available for fans to enjoy worldwide.
Okay, so I’m really excited about the casting for this new project! Dominic McLaughlin is taking on the role of Harry Potter, and he’s fantastic. He’ll be joined by Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. And the supporting cast is incredible – John Lithgow as Dumbledore? Yes, please! We’ve also got Janet McTeer as McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Snape, and even Nick Frost as Hagrid. Seriously, what a lineup!
Francesca Gardiner is leading the show as showrunner and executive producer. Mark Mylod is also an executive producer and will direct several episodes. Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and David Heyman are also executive producers. Production is currently happening at Leavesden Studios.
Harry Potter will premiere on HBO in 2027.
