Okay, so the buzz about Tobey Maguire’s suit in Avengers: Doomsday has been crazy, right? We were all talking about it after those first set reports came out. Now it’s clear why he was wearing a full CGI suit on set – it’s all about how they’re updating his Spider-Man look for this big Marvel team-up movie. It’s pretty interesting stuff, and explains a lot!
Tobey Maguire likely to get a new functional suit in Avengers: Doomsday
Tobey Maguire will be in Avengers: Doomsday and will be sporting a new costume. Sources say he initially filmed his scenes using motion capture technology because his new suit wasn’t finished at the time.
Evidence suggests a special effects suit was being created during the initial stages of filming. According to Cosmic Marvel, who referenced insider DanielRPK, actor Maguire was apparently filmed wearing a digitally created suit during the production of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’.
Despite rumors, the new Spider-Man suit won’t be based on a futuristic, high-tech design like the Iron Spider suit. Instead, Marvel is creating a suit that’s more practical and similar in style to the one Tobey Maguire wore in Spider-Man: No Way Home. It appears the motion capture equipment used during filming was concealing the suit’s actual design. The updated suit will be an evolution of Maguire’s classic look, focusing on functionality rather than advanced technology.
Sources indicate that Tom Holland’s Peter Parker may look a bit different in the upcoming film. Specifically, he’s expected to sport a short beard, which is similar to how the character is depicted in the Ultimate Spider-Man comics. This suggests a more grown-up version of Peter, fitting with the idea of multiple universes and different versions of the same character.
The upcoming Avengers: Doomsday film boasts a huge cast. Ryan Reynolds will reprise his role as Deadpool, and Hugh Jackman is returning as Wolverine. Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Tom Hiddleston, Paul Rudd, and Robert Downey Jr. are also starring, with Downey Jr. playing Doctor Doom, who is being hailed by some, like @MyTimeToShineHello, as potentially one of Marvel’s greatest villains.
The movie welcomes several new actors to the cast, including Wyatt Russell, Simu Liu, Florence Pugh, Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, and Joseph Quinn. It also stars familiar faces from the X-Men films, like Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen. Marvel Studios plans to release the film on December 18, 2026.
