Why Tyra Banks Was Absent From Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2025

Tyra Banks was rooting for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show stars from afar. 

The former America’s Next Top Model contestant has been friends with the brand since she began modeling in the 1990s, and even appeared in nine of their fashion shows before retiring in 2005. She recently explained why she couldn’t make it to their latest event in New York on October 15th.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight on October 15th, she revealed she was currently in Australia and occupied with running her ice cream company, SMiZE and Dream. When asked about her future plans, she simply said, “We’ll see.”

The 51-year-old was quick to point out that her not being involved won’t change how well-known the brand is, particularly since the yearly fashion show returned last year after being paused for five years.

She excitedly shared that Victoria’s Secret is a classic American brand that has become well-known around the world, and she’s thrilled to see it making a comeback.

Tyra Banks, who relocated to Australia in 2023 with her 9-year-old son, Yorks Banks Asla, shared how important Victoria’s Secret was in helping her start her career.

She fondly remembered her ten years as a Victoria’s Secret Angel, recalling how she was often the first Black model in many of their campaigns. She felt proud to have paved the way for greater diversity and was thrilled to see so many other Black models following in her footsteps. She expressed deep gratitude for the opportunities Victoria’s Secret provided.

The brand also expressed gratitude to Tyra Banks for helping launch their revamped show last year, which was her first runway walk since retiring in 2005. She also shared that while she previously stepped away from another commitment years ago, she now feels the world has changed, allowing her to balance all her passions and commitments.

Last year, she told *Harper’s Bazaar* that she’s able to juggle many roles: running a business, leading her ice cream company, speaking at business events, completing her Harvard course, teaching at Stanford, and also working as a Victoria’s Secret model.

Indeed, Tyra was excited for what the new era of Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show represented. 

She explained that the world is finally recognizing women don’t have to conform to a single image or expectation. She feels thrilled and lucky to be able to embrace her whole self and not feel pressured to change who she is to be respected.
