Why WNBA’s A’ja Wilson Says Met Gala Prep Feels Just Like Game Day

A’ja Wilson’s time at the 2026 Met Gala felt like a slam dunk.

For the WNBA center, who’s helping organize the May 4th event, getting ready for the Met Gala feels a lot like preparing for a Las Vegas Aces game.

A’ja admitted she was still feeling nervous while speaking with Zuri Hall on Live From TopMob: Met Gala 2026. She explained it had been a long day, and she hadn’t been able to rest with a quick nap.

“We’re getting through it,” she continued. “I’m just so excited to be here.”

The 29-year-old looked stunning at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s “Fashion Is Art” event. She wore a beautiful gold gown by Prabal Gurung, featuring long, flowing cape sleeves.

A’ja explained to TopMob that they aimed for a look that was both stylish and elegant. She especially loved the gold details, which she felt really completed the outfit.

When it comes to WNBA players’ fashion choices, everyone seems to approve. Along with A’ja Wilson, stars Angel Reese and Paige Bueckers also made an appearance on the red carpet at fashion’s biggest event.

Angel wore a made-to-order Altuzarra dress with flowing sleeves and an off-the-shoulder design, while Paige selected a custom Coach suit. The suit consisted of three pieces and was decorated with colorful graffiti-like splashes and detailed beading.

Paige explained to TopMob’s By Design during the Live From TopMob Stream: Met Gala that all the small elements – the beads, colors, and everything else – worked together wonderfully for her. She encouraged viewers to express themselves and enjoy creating something beautiful.

There were Easter eggs hidden throughout, too.

The 24-year-old explained they’re personalizing the sleeve with an embroidered number five, which is their basketball jersey number.

Needless to say, she scored big on the theme and dress code.

I see basketball as a form of art, and this project felt like all my passions came together,” she said. “I especially liked how they assembled everything for this piece.
