Wizards Beyond Waverly Place cast reacts to Alex’s death in Season 2 finale
In an interview with TVLine, David Henrie – who is also a producer on the *Wizards of Waverly Place* revival – revealed he’d known how Selena Gomez’s character, Alex, would end up since the show’s second season.
The actor explained that he had a good idea of how the season would unfold and kept it to himself, anticipating a strong reaction from fans. He spent seven months eagerly awaiting the cast’s reaction when they finally read the script and learned how everything would end.
In the season two finale of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, it’s revealed that Billie is actually the daughter of Alex Russo. When Lord Morsus starts pursuing Billie, Alex takes her to WizTech and magically erases everyone’s memories of her to protect her. Ultimately, Alex sacrifices herself to save her family, pushing Lord Morsus into a portal as he corners them.
Henrie shared that the cast of Wizards of Waverly Place were very emotional when they first read the script for the Season 2 finale, particularly because of Alex’s storyline. He said the table read turned into a group crying session, with everyone involved deeply touched by the episode – exactly the reaction he’d been hoping for.
Janice LeAnn Brown remembered having a similar emotional response while reading the script. She said that during one read-through, her co-star, Alkaio Thiele, noticed she was crying and asked about it. Brown replied that the script was deeply moving and really affecting her.
