Wargaming has released a new trailer for World of Tanks: HEAT, its action-packed tank shooter, and announced it will launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on May 26th. The trailer gives players a first look at the game’s story, which will set the scene for its quick, competitive multiplayer battles.
The game starts with a dramatic scene: a team of tanks parachuting onto a beach. As they move inland, they immediately encounter enemy forces. The action is amplified by a driving metal soundtrack accompanying the tanks’ destructive path. These tanks aren’t just about firepower; they’re also incredibly agile, capable of moving quickly and even drifting around corners.
The battles won’t just be fought by tanks, though. The trailer features a lot of jets and drones providing extra support with missiles and targeted airstrikes. A fun detail: after a fight, two characters wave to each other before quickly returning to their tanks, likely because more tanks are about to be deployed from the air.
World of Tanks: HEAT was first revealed in August 2025 with a trailer showing off its 10-versus-10 battles. Wargaming also announced that players would have extensive vehicle customization options, including choices for weapons, armor, and cosmetic items.
So, Wargaming’s CEO, Victor Kislyi, is calling World of Tanks: HEAT their big new take on the World of Tanks formula. Basically, they’re aiming for faster, more action-packed battles. And get this – they announced it’ll work with the Steam Deck right out of the gate! Plus, they’re letting you carry your progress across different platforms, which is awesome.
Just last month, Wargaming gave players a sneak peek at World of Tanks: HEAT with a small, closed beta test. The beta included eight different maps and let players battle with a range of tanks in several game modes focused on capturing and defending key locations.
Although World of Tanks: HEAT seems like a fresh direction for the series, it’s interesting to note that Wargaming stated back in 2017 they weren’t planning a World of Tanks 2. Alex de Giorgio, then the game’s publishing director, explained that a sequel didn’t fit with the studio’s goals.
Because Wargaming had invested years in updating and expanding the free-to-play game, creating a completely new sequel was a tough decision. As they explained, the game’s continuous development has always been its strength, and starting over just didn’t seem logical.
