Actress Alexandra Shipp has shared her preferred storyline for Storm when the X-Men character makes her entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which includes a connection with the Black Panther. Alexandra first portrayed Ororo Munroe’s Storm in the 20th Century Fox’s X-Men series, debuting in 2016’s “X-Men: Apocalypse,” set in 1983. She succeeded Halle Berry as Storm, who starred in the original X-Men trilogy. However, it’s expected that a new actress will play Storm in the MCU, and Shipp hopes for her character to be linked with the Black Panther, much like her preference.
Alexandra Shipp expressed her eagerness to witness more of Storm’s story, particularly her relationship with T’Challa, during an interview with Perri Nemiroff from Collider while promoting her latest film, “Violent Ends.” She explained that she wants this aspect of Storm’s past to be explored and integrated into the narrative at that point in time. Essentially, Shipp is hinting at the portrayal of Storm’s long-standing romance and marriage to T’Challa’s Black Panther character from Marvel Comics, which could potentially become a reality within the MCU onscreen.

In 2019, when Disney acquired Fox and its assets, Marvel Studios obtained the rights to characters like Storm from the X-Men. Already featured in the animated series “What If…?”, Storm (in her Thor-like version) was voiced by Alison Sealy-Smith, who previously played Storm in “X-Men: The Animated Series” and “X-Men ’97”. With an upcoming MCU X-Men reboot, penned by Michael Lesslie and directed by Jake Schreier, a new live-action portrayal of Storm could debut as soon as 2028. Given that Marvel is emphasizing a youthful cast for the X-Men, there’s potential for exploring Storm’s history with Black Panther (T’Challa) more extensively.
In the Marvel Universe, teenage Ororo Munroe crossed paths with T’Challa in the vast plains of the Serengeti. Over time, they developed a deep connection and harbored mutual affection for each other. However, their separate paths led them to different destinations – T’Challa ascending to the throne of Wakanda and Ororo joining the X-Men. Ramonda, T’Challa’s mother, later reunited them, and they tied the knot in 2006. But their union was tested during the Avengers vs. X-Men saga due to their opposing loyalties. Since then, they have experienced periods of reconciliation and separation multiple times. It would be fascinating for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) to portray this intricate and sprawling tale.
In the aftermath of “Avengers: Secret Wars” in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there’s a chance for a fresh face to take on the role of T’Challa. Or, considering the maturity we saw from young Prince T’Challa (Divine Love Konadu-Sun) in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” from 2022, he might be ready for his initial encounter with Storm in the Serengeti. Previously, Alexandra Shipp at WonderCon (as reported by LRM Online) suggested that Storm didn’t need T’Challa for her character to hold weight. However, recent comments indicate a shift in tone. Regardless, the romantic storyline between Storm and T’Challa has potential in the MCU, and this could be the ideal moment for its introduction.
