A shooting game that first launched on PC in 2013, and then as an exclusive on the Xbox 360 in 2014, is being discontinued after more than a decade. While originally tied to the Xbox 360, it was later released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch in the years following. Despite its availability on other platforms, it never made its way to the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S, and will now be permanently unavailable.
The popular online shooter Warface, also known as Warface: Clutch since 2020, is being discontinued. Originally created by Crytek and later managed by MY.Games, the PC version will shut down on May 27th, with the console version following on August 25th. The reason for the staggered shutdown dates isn’t known. Players can still enjoy the game until then, but after those dates, it will no longer be available to play or download.
Statement About Shutdown
An official announcement states that the team has decided to stop working on Warface: Clutch soon.
The announcement doesn’t explain why the game is shutting down. Since there aren’t any licensing issues, it’s likely the cost of running the game is now higher than the revenue it generates.
Warface Fans Disappointed
It’s no surprise that fans of Warface are upset by the announcement. While the game wasn’t hugely popular, and had its challenges, particularly when it became free-to-play, there’s still a dedicated community who are disappointed to see the online shooter shut down.
One fan shared their sadness, saying, “Warface was the game I played more than any other.” They expressed gratitude for all the fun, late nights, and even the stressful moments the game provided, calling it a cherished “old friend” and thanking it for everything.
Players are expressing their sadness about the news. One fan shared they’ve been enjoying the game for nearly seven years and are very grateful. Another said they’ve played since 2019 and still love it, thanking the developers for the memories.
It appears this game is being permanently shut down, with no plans for a revival. It’s a significant title for My.Games, ranking alongside popular games like War Robots and Rush Royale. This closure raises questions about the developer’s future plans. While it’s a big shutdown, considering the game has been around for 13 years, it’s perhaps understandable.
