Heading into the weekend, an Xbox game has become the most popular title on Steam, surpassing both Subnautica 2 and LEGO Batman. Last week, Subnautica 2 held the top spot, and many predicted LEGO Batman would take over this weekend. However, a major new Xbox game released this week took both by surprise. This success for Xbox comes after Diablo 4 climbed back to #4 on Steam’s weekly charts, boosted by the launch of its new expansion.
Currently, the top three games on Steam are Forza Horizon 6 at number one, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight at number two, and Subnautica 2 in third. As predicted, Forza Horizon 6, the latest racing game from Xbox and Playground Games, is proving very popular, just like the previous installment. Both Forza Horizon 6 and Subnautica 2 are available to play for free with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, which is likely boosting their numbers. Many predicted LEGO Batman might take the top spot, but Forza Horizon 6‘s success is remarkable considering it could have sold a million or two more copies at launch. This happened with Forza Horizon 5 as well, and Forza Horizon 6 is just as good. Adding to this, both Forza Horizon 6 and LEGO Batman cost $70, while Subnautica 2 is priced at $30, making Forza Horizon 6‘s performance even more impressive.
2026’s Best Game
According to Metacritic, Forza Horizon 6 is currently the highest-rated game of 2026, scoring a 91. While that’s one point lower than Forza Horizon 5‘s score, there’s still time for the rating to improve. Regardless, it’s the only game released this year to achieve a score in the 90s, with the next best games scoring an 89.
It seems likely that Forza Horizon 6 will remain the top game for now. Unless 007 First Light takes the lead on May 27th, it could stay in first place for quite some time, as there aren’t many major game releases scheduled after that for a while.
