It’s been five years since the game The Falconeer was first released with the Xbox Series X. Now, the game is getting a fresh start with The Falconeer: Revolution Remaster, created by solo developer Tomas Sala and published by Wired Productions. The remaster is available now on Steam, and it’s free for anyone who already owns the original.
If you didn’t catch it when it first came out, The Falconeer is an open-world air combat game where you fly massive warbirds across a vast oceanic world called the Ursee. You’ll engage in exciting aerial battles and uncover the secrets of a land torn apart by conflict and driven by greed. Remarkably, the entire game was created by a single developer and gained recognition in 2020 for its distinctive look and impressive scale.
Five years after the original release, Sala has completely rebuilt the game. He considers this updated version the final, ideal form of his creation, and early impressions suggest he’s right. Sala explained that the remaster was driven by a desire to improve the game, respond to player feedback, and, most importantly, fulfill a personal need to create something better. He sees it as a project he had to do.
This updated version of The Falconeer features significant improvements throughout the game. The environments have been completely recreated, and the lighting is now more vibrant and modern. The warbirds themselves have been redesigned to feel more alive, and the flight controls have been improved for smoother, more responsive combat. Missions have been rebalanced for better pacing, and enemies now present a greater challenge. All of these changes combine to create more exciting and satisfying battles.
We’ve combined all previously released downloadable content, including the ‘Edge of the World’ expansion, directly into the main game. Sala has also enriched the game’s story with new locations and subtle details, adding to the intrigue surrounding the Ursee. We’ve also streamlined the controls for a smoother, more intuitive experience, no matter how you play – with a controller or mouse and keyboard.
The best part? This updated version is completely free for anyone who already owns the game on Steam. If you’re new to the game, you can get it at a reduced price during the first week of release, from November 5th to 10th. And Wired Productions is letting players continue to enjoy the original 2020 version too! They’re keeping it available on Steam, so you can easily switch between the old and new versions whenever you like.
The release of The Falconeer: Revolution Remaster provides a refined and more comprehensive experience compared to the original game. It’s a tribute to dedicated fans, and a great opportunity for newcomers to discover a standout indie title from the early days of the Xbox Series X.
You can now play The Falconeer: Revolution Remaster – it’s officially released on Steam.
