Yellowstone was a hugely popular show over its five seasons, and you’ve probably recognized many of the actors from other movies and TV shows. The series, starring Kevin Costner as John Dutton and created by Taylor Sheridan, launched the careers of its cast and showcased established performers. Now, fans of Yellowstone can stream a beloved comedy film featuring one of the show’s stars, as it’s recently become available on Peacock.
Cole Hauser is famous now for playing Rip Wheeler on Yellowstone, but many viewers might remember him from an earlier role. Before Yellowstone, he played the high school athlete Benny O’Donnell in the classic movie Dazed and Confused, which also starred Matthew McConaughey, Ben Affleck, and Renée Zellweger. That film recently became available to stream on Peacock, starting April 1st. Dazed and Confused is a comedy set in a small Texas town in May 1976, following a group of teenagers as they celebrate the last day of school with parties and traditions, and look ahead to summer and what comes next.
Dazed and Confused Is One of the Best Teen Comedies Ever Made
Over the years, many fantastic teen comedies have been made, and Dazed and Confused consistently ranks among the very best. Instead of offering a polished, idealized view of the past, the film strives for a remarkably honest portrayal of what high school was really like in the 1970s. It captures the genuine feelings of being a teenager – the awkwardness, excitement, and boredom – and the social dynamics of high school life. The film feels incredibly real, perfectly capturing the raw, funny, and heartfelt experience of the last day of school with dialogue that rings true. Plus, it’s a fantastic snapshot of the 1970s, complete with classic rock, cool cars, and authentic fashion.
Despite not being a big hit in theaters – it only made $8 million – Dazed and Confused was popular with audiences. It boasts a 94% approval rating from critics and a 90% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. The film’s realistic portrayal of carefree high school life in 1976, combined with a talented cast and memorable lines, helped it become a beloved cult classic. While a direct sequel was never made, director Richard Linklater revisited similar themes in his 2016 film Everybody Wants Some!!, which you can stream on Pluto TV.
What’s New on Peacock?
Peacock had a strong month of additions in April, and as May’s new titles arrive, it’s good to remember everything that was added last month. Viewers could enjoy films like the entire Blade trilogy, both Five Nights at Freddy’s movies, and the classic Dead Poets Society. For comedy fans, Peacock also added a bunch of favorites, including Airplane!, The 40 Year-Old Virgin, Crocodile Dundee, A Fish Called Wanda, Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle, Road Trip, South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut, and Step Brothers.
