Yoshi And The Mysterious Book – Everything You Should Know

Now that the Mario movie is out, you might be looking for another fun adventure. Luckily, Yoshi has one ready! He’s about to meet a special book, and you’ll get to jump inside its world, exploring and discovering all sorts of things.

Curious about what that refers to? Keep reading to learn some important details about this product before you make a purchase.

1. Meet Mr. E.

The Mysterious Book is actually Mr. E, an old encyclopedia who looks dignified and wise, but has unfortunately forgotten much of his information. You’ll need to explore each chapter to help him remember everything he knows about the world’s creatures – and it won’t be easy! Mr. E. isn’t just the source of your quests; he also tracks your progress and is a key character in the story.

2. Learning On The Job

Okay, so if I find a new creature in Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, the best way to figure out what it does is just… try stuff! Seriously, I can eat them to get their powers, carry them around and see how they change things up, or even just yeet them at other creatures to see what happens. The game is all about experimenting, and honestly, there’s no wrong way to play. If I have an idea, I should just go for it!

We’re serious, and you’ll learn why as we keep going.

3. Use Interactions to Solve Puzzles

To advance in the game, you’ll need to solve puzzles and explore everything around you. Solving puzzles and discovering how things interact will earn you stars, which are essential for completing levels. If you find something that seems impossible to overcome, it probably means you haven’t discovered a hidden solution nearby – though sometimes, you might just need to try something different!

This one’s exploration hides some serious depth, which we’re getting to in a moment.

4. Yoshi’s Usual Tricks

The game features plenty of jumping and platforming challenges, and you’ll encounter some enemies along the way. Luckily, Yoshi can still eat enemies and turn them into eggs you can throw – a classic Yoshi ability! You’ll spend a good amount of time exploring each level, making sure you find everything hidden within them. These levels are quite expansive and require thorough investigation.

Thankfully, the ability to devour enemies isn’t the only ability in Yoshi’s arsenal.

5. Yoshi Gets A New Ability

Beyond eating everything in sight and, well, what comes after that, Yoshi gains a new skill while exploring the game’s colorful worlds. He can now use his tail to interact with things! The ‘Tail Flick’ lets him grab items or creatures that are far away, bringing them closer when he can’t reach them himself. These objects could be essential for moving forward, finding new areas, or uncovering hidden secrets.

It’s good to know we have options on this one.

6. Physical Editions Are Not Game Key Cards

If you prefer to own physical game cartridges, you’ll be happy to hear that Yoshi and the Mysterious Book comes entirely on the game card. Like other games made specifically for the Switch, physical copies cost a bit more than digital downloads. However, you might be able to find a better price by checking with local stores.

7. A Gorgeous Art Style

The game’s design is incredibly cute and charming, brought to life with delightful stop-motion animation and a bright, colorful style. It looks fantastic whether you’re playing on the go or docked to your TV, perfectly matching the game’s overall lovely tone.

We think this looks promising and we’re excited to try it out when we receive a copy.

8. Biome Variety

The game’s visuals will really complement its diverse environments, like the Wildwoods, Mountain Top, and the Seaside, among others. We’re planning a wide range of creatures, and lots of interesting ways for them to interact with their surroundings.

As far as biome variety goes, Mr. E. has us sorted.

9. Another Ability for Yoshi

Early looks at the game suggest Yoshi can eat enemies to steal their abilities, giving him even more ways to help Mr. E. For example, if Yoshi eats an enemy that shoots watermelon seeds, he’ll gain the power to do that himself. It seems we won’t be helpless – we can turn our enemies’ strengths into our own!

Let’s talk about his other new moves. He can now flutter jump to cross big gaps while exploring, and he has a ground pound attack that deals area-of-effect damage. This will be useful for fighting enemies or clearing obstacles.

10. You Get To Name Creatures You Learn Of

Exploring new worlds and finding unique creatures is challenging, but also exciting! Luckily, you get to name anything you discover. We anticipate players will come up with some wonderfully creative – and funny – names, and we can’t wait to see what you come up with.

Just know that your names aren’t going to be part of the larger canon, though.

11. Yoshi Can’t Die

So, the developers said anything goes in this game, and honestly, it’s pretty wild. When I take damage, Yoshi just looks a little bummed out – there’s no actual health bar or way to die. I’m not entirely sure how I feel about that – I usually like a good challenge – but I’m definitely going to check it out when it releases on May 21, 2026, before I decide if it works for me.

This could be a calming game to help you unwind after a stressful day or a challenging session, and that’s a good thing.

12. The Game Rewards Diligent Explorers

Having a character who’s practically immortal makes exploring levels much more relaxed, because you don’t have to worry about getting stuck on something too difficult. While you can finish the game by just collecting enough stars, the real fun in Yoshi and the Mysterious Book comes from fully discovering everything the game has to offer.

If you enjoy exploring every nook and cranny, you’ll discover hidden treasures like Smiley Flowers, mysterious creatures, and even brand new locations. Just be aware that completing everything might require a little bit of revisiting old areas.

13. Back To Where You’ve Been

Finding new creatures does more than just unlock skills and information for the player. Each creature affects the game world in a unique way, and you’ll need to use these interactions to open up new paths. This system is engaging on its own, but it becomes even more exciting knowing that creatures can move to areas you’ve already visited, potentially revealing previously inaccessible locations.

Yoshi will really need to work hard as an archivist to help Mr. E. recover all of his forgotten memories.

14. Boss Fights

Discovering beautiful new worlds and strange creatures is fun, but the game also offers exciting challenges. Early reports suggest you’ll encounter boss battles featuring recognizable characters. We won’t reveal who they are, but be prepared for tough fights that require clever thinking as you progress through each level.

15. A Splash of Customization

This game lets you choose from several different colored Yoshis. We’re not sure if the colors just change how Yoshi looks, but we’re hoping each color gives Yoshi special abilities to make the gameplay more varied and fun.

We’re going to have to wait and see if that’s the case, but we’d sure be delighted if it’s true.

That’s all for now! We’re really looking forward to this new game – the art style is charming and the design seems clever, so we think it’ll be a game we spend a lot of time playing. It looks like Yoshi is about to embark on a great adventure, and if you’re curious, you’re probably already interested. We’ll definitely be joining in on the fun!
